I have been working at Lonza Biologics full-time

    Pros

    - Lonza is a leader in cell therapy
    - Diverse group
    - Coworkers are extremely nice
    - Company mission is clear

    Cons

    - Pay is very low for industry
    - High turnover
    - Many employees do not possess the ability to solve problems thus heavy reliance on managers

    Advice to Management

There is so much potential for the company. Invest more resources/efforts in hiring talent

    Pros

At time of employment Lonza's bonus structure was quiet generous however that is a thing of the past.

    Cons

Boys Club & Women's Club comprised of far too many years of service. Dysfunctional, judgmental and cliquish environment specifically within Portsmouth NH. The business market of Biotech is so small between NH and Cambridge that often the same cliques move between biotech companies which makes for a stale, predictable and uninteresting group of people and statement of work.

    Advice to Management

You're institutionalized, so be brave and move on. A change in the guard is mission critical at this point.

I have been working at Lonza Biologics (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have great coworkers and scheduling is flexible. I enjoy the people and managers are very understanding and easy to talk to

    Cons

My temporary status is very frustrating. I obviously get no days off even with a year long contract. Working from home is prohibited, even though it would be easy to do.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to make working from home more likely.

I have been working at Lonza Biologics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many growth opportunities due to constantly evolving management system. Lonza is in a unique position in biotech with lots of contract opportunities, so job security is high.

    Cons

Company is becoming very top heavy. Very cold and mechanical toward the lower ranks (manufacturing). High amount of focus on lean manufacturing with little consideration for realistic scheduling requirements.

    Advice to Management

Invest more effort, real effort, into quality of life for employees. 110% is not possible, but requested from many. Asking for 75% isn't even realistic. Many are burning out and the competent are leaving. There are signs that this is starting to get attention, but not enough.

I worked at Lonza Biologics full-time

    Pros

Benefits are great, work is fast-paced and interesting, most people are great to work with and highly competent.

    Cons

Many repetitive changes in top senior and site leadership. Runs very lean, so the workload can be overwhelming and lead to poor work/life balance. Culture has recently gone away from valuing talent.

    Advice to Management

Keep the good leaders that inspire, motivate, and have a vision for the right kind of success. Remove leaders that are incompetent and ineffectual quickly, rather than
Eat them do too much damage before helping them out the door. Value the people because no company can succeed without motivated and fulfilled employees who are rewarded and appreciated for their efforts.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

The only 'Pro' would be the ability to use this company as a stepping stone along the way to working at a real company, one that values and takes care of its employees.

    Cons

    Terrible pay.
The expectation is that you will work one or two levels above your pay grade, without incentive.
Employees are currently overworked, with no relief in sight.
No advancement possibilities, especially for the employees that have been there for a while.
Terrible managers in place in the QC laboratory. They seem to relish destroying people.

    Advice to Management

Quit, so Lonza can get a real management team in place.
