I worked at Lord & Taylor part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Gained customer service skills and was able to learn the ins and outs of retail. It was a good first job experience.

    Cons

Dealing with rude customers who could at times act entitled and privileged was a little frustrating to deal with. Many departments were often understaffed so fitting rooms became a mess very quickly, and I would sometimes be left alone for hours in one section and be expected to be at the register and somehow clean my entire section of the floor.

    Advice to Management

They should definitely schedule more associates in each department and work on a better system for the fitting rooms, because that was often the biggest issue.

I worked at Lord & Taylor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The discounts are the main perk with this job. The other main perk is that you actually got paid to do the job as long as you attempted to make sales, most of the time. The customers are what made my day important and awake in the morning each day. The Garden City atmosphere was great, however I'd rather grab a starbucks and beg for an internship in the real corporate part of town. If you want to work here, tread softly!

    Cons

Where do I begin? I had to put myself in denial the first month I was there, that's how bad it was. I felt like everyday I came in for work, I had to be overly cautious walking in and out of the stockroom due to unpleasant conditions. I would feel like I couldn't voice my opinion to help improve their poor situation. Working so hard, giving excellent customer service, I did everything I could, and management gives no positive feedback. Customers were treated like garbage and associates had to try and please them. We were taught and told to be making "like management" decisions, just to save them the extra job task. They have a name for it in the handbook. Management literally would give "dead end help" and then tell customers, corporate couldn't help them. Some associates had such hostility from the work atmosphere, I would come in and get abused by them for no reason, I suppose there form of manipulation. This place did crazy stuff to people. Hostility was at it's maximum and management flat out told me, that the other associates were not going to help teach how to do a job task. Meaning if someone didn't want to help a new associate, management would not encourage it either. Sick!!! Other associates were not reprimanded for stealing sales from other associates. Very discouraging atmosphere!!!

    Advice to Management

It might be time to get your act together. Jesus is watching and coming soon! I felt like and I'm still unsure if management chose to operate blindly on a daily basis ignoring important employee concerns. I believe it would help if "Integrity" was implemented and utilized from the management, rather than carved out of stone as a show piece on one's desk. In time, they too, shall learn!
