I have been working at Lorillard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    1) Large company with a small company feel. Really good people.
    2) Very competent CEO and many on the executive management team.
    3) Fun being a part of a very old company that is culturally moving into a newer and more modern environment.
    4) Many of the staff are dedicated employees. Very low turnover rate. Obviously the company is doing something right.
    5) Competitive salary and benefits with minor exception being a very unattractive vacation program

    Cons

    1) Like most companies, there is not a great deal of upward growth opportunity, but a smart person can really shine in this organization if they try.
    2) Some of the old style management still exists which can create a dysfunctional work environment.
    3) The vacation policy is something that could afford some attention and improvement. Could be a burden in attracting and landing good talent.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and continue to drive our company forward.

I have been working at Lorillard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A company that cares about YOU. As an associate: your challenges, development, successes and overall being. As a person: your family, balancing career and home, there when you need them...a true "family" environment. Most importantly, Lorillard Tobacco is a highly successful, 240 year old success story that not only knows who generates that success, but is more than willing to share that success with every associate...which in turn is overwhelmingly reciprocated.

    Cons

With any international company, there are bound to be some negatives. Lorillard Tobacco must have some, however, they would be extremely isolated and usually attended to and reviewed to insure no repetition. Associates, from field sales representatives to corporate management, are allowed a wide berth in which to operate and achieve success. However, when conflicts occur, everything is studied, researched and reviewed by peer groups and management to not only insure fairness and consistency, but to discover methods to reduce the chances of occuring again.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Fair pay for responsibilities, quality: products;marketing programs,;sales resources. Well respected by customers (Wholesale and Retail)

    Cons

Poor development program for competitive personalities who want to continually grow. The low rate of turnover leaves most employees in Field Sales stuck as DM or Sales Reps. Upper management is very tight and you must play politics with the VPs if you want to position yourself in front of the pack rather than by superb performance. You will never receive a superior rating for the top performance raise during reviews, it what you call a White Elephant.

    Advice to Management

Conservative I agree with entirely, the extremely cheap ways you treat your assets in the field outside of regular compensation hurts morale across the board.
