I have been working at Lorna Jane

    Pros

Entrepreneurial environment. If you can dream it you can do it. Relaxed dress code, youthful workforce, fast growing company in a brand new market.

    Cons

Some growing pains moving into the US market. Sometimes decisions made on gut instinct rather than facts. Commute to Santa Monica from East LA is long, but you already knew that ;)

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Lorna Jane part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-50% off LJ merchandise -higher than minimum wage hourly pay -potential for growth within the store quickly -access to free workout classes in the community

    Cons

-high turnover -lack of professionalism in management -shady operation -work part-time employees full time hours without any sort of added compensation

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on those you leave in charge... I was repeatedly left alone in the store for hours at a time because management would go out and "activate" in the community, which was just an excuse to leave early and steal money from the company by getting paid to sit at home. Absolutely absurd.

I have been working at Lorna Jane for more than a year

    Pros

The customers and the team members you get to work with.

    Cons

The entire structure of the company. Middle management team

    Advice to Management

They need to hire people who genuinely know how to run a company. Instead of wasting money and expecting teams to reach achievable budgets, they should consider how they sell and market their products. When a complaint is made about an employee, they should take it seriously- instead of just putting them on probation and letting them return to work to bully the staff. The HR team are incompetent and don't support...

I have been working at Lorna Jane part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some nice girls in store. That's the only thing, you had a few people who understood what you are going through because you are all being bullied together!

    Cons

The major issue is the culture of bullying allowed to continue despite the company already facing legal trouble. Area Managers would frequently verbally abuse or yell at staff in front of customers and the other team members. AM who are obviously too young and lack the professional maturity to be able to do their jobs well without being mean. No action by HR to get to the root of the bullying...but hey Lorna herself...

I worked at Lorna Jane part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    • Loved the girls I worked with in my store. Have done and will keep in touch with them for hopefully a long time to come. • Clothing is decent quality, though a pain to keep it looking nice. • Casual pay per hour was very good.

    Cons

    • A couple of my clothing items already look terrible and I've had them maybe a couple of months. • Staff discount is dismal at only 25%. • Incentives are pretty intangible, well in my very quiet store they were anyway - competing against much bigger, busier stores in bustling complexes. • They cut and cut and cut your hours, with no warning or reason until you literally have no hours left. And expect you to survive...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your active stylists, VMs, store managers, 2ICs. At the end of the day, if the people at the bottom, in the stores aren't happy, you won't be revelling the money you are so desperate to make. Yes, we may just be "Christmas casuals", but we are the people customers see. We are the ones selling your merchandise. We are the face of your company, and if the face of the company is sad, under valued, feels unappreciated,...
