    Pros

    -good benefits
    -never take your work home
-lots of paid holidays (almost 1 every month)

    Cons

    - favoritism. it's who you know, not how you work.
    - same generic evaluation every year
    -management doesn't care about staff
-your performance doesn't matter. management will not recognize your hard work.
-management will make examples of good employees but will leave the bad employees alone.
    -you get burnt out.
-lots of negative attitudes from management and patients

this really depends on your job title. my job title is very thankless. it could be better in a different work setting.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Los Angeles County Department of Health Services part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible Schedule
Great place to learn about the healthcare industry and government work. Depending on the team you work with, the staff and managers can be great colleagues and mentors.

    Cons

No room to grow, little funding. Top leaders and influencers do not foster a positive work environment. Not unusual to hear condescending and rude comments directed at subordinates. This was NOT my experience as my manager was wonderful at sheltering our team from such behavior and negativity.

    Basically, work-of-clock place

Have to obey policies and routine processes--even not best for patients. few stimulate work, not clear promotion route--except seniority. Too strong union effect makes them hard to trim redundant , Incompetent, un-friendly personnels.

I worked at Los Angeles County Department of Health Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Benefits are great. Can't beat the pension and 457 plans. The department is large enough that there's room for lateral movement and upward mobility. Work-life balance is generally good because there there is ample administrative staff and you don't have to work overtime very often.

    Cons

Everyone works in silos which leads to poor communication. Much of the staff and management are unprofessional which contributes to very low morale in administration.
