I have been working at Los Angeles full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

. The benefits and pay are the only reasons MOST stock with my department. The job itself is great and can be fun. Working independently and outdoors is a plus!!

    Cons

Management has no clue of what's going on in the field. Opinions are asked and then ignored! Pilot programs instituted, if not discontinued will automatically become permanent. Most management personnel are self absorbed with they attitude if it's not my idea then it's not a great idea.

I have been working at Los Angeles part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Part time, looking for work as a 911 Operator. Work as therapist in crisis situations make me a good fit.

    Cons

Availability is limited, but this might be a positive for employers as I can readily work weekends and night shifts.

    Advice to Management

    Part time gives you flexibility

I have been working at Los Angeles part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great hands-on experience for students still in school earning their degree and flexible with adjusting work schedules based on the commitments you have with school (depends on department)

    Cons

The process to get converted to a full-time employee is not as simple as in private companies. No matter how much your manager would like to bring you on as full-time, you still have to go through the usual process of waiting for the position to open to accept applications from the general public, take a test, have a preliminary interview, then score high enough on the test and interview so that you get into the pool of people that your manager can even interview from in order to fill the position.

I have been working at Los Angeles as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits. Good pay. Stability. You get to do real work, not "intern" type work.

    Cons

Lack of training. Lack of on-boarding. Terrible culture and communication. Outdated technology. CYA mentality/culture. Overworked/stressed employees. Lack of work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Proper on boarding procedures and training is a must. The "sink or swim" mentality is a horrible way to start people off. If you're too busy or don't care about training your employees, then maybe you should think twice about being a "supervisor".
