I worked at Los Angeles USD part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is a great school because of the culture. It feels like everyone is invested in making it great and their is vibrant energy all around. As a TA I worked with a couple teachers helping in whatever they needed.

    Cons

As a part-time employee you're not getting paid a ton for your time and you don't receive any benefits, like health insurance.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes there is a perception that wealthy, contributing parents have too much influence over the school.

I worked at Los Angeles USD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Despite all the anti-public school propaganda, some of the finest teachers I've ever known work for LAUSD -- they are earnest men and women trying to do the most good for the most people.

    Cons

Whatever selectors there are for success at LAUSD, they seem to favor a type of ego-driven, politically-fueled, money-hungry tyrant (and those who benefit from them) for the top positions. The closer you get to the top at LAUSD, the shadier it seems to get.

    Advice to Management

Your biggest asset is the teachers working for you. I promise you that.

I have been working at Los Angeles USD full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You know that you're helping children and families throughout the school year. It can be creative and inspiring.

    Cons

Constantly shifting expectations from upper administration makes it challenging to know what's coming around the corner at any moment. Getting a consistent straight answer on any question is nearly impossible.

    Advice to Management

Be more understanding to the teachers who work hard to help their students. More paperwork may cover your accountability, but it prevents us from spending more time with our students.
