I worked at Lotus Engineering full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The staff was typically a great bunch to work with. A creative bunch for sure and we needed to be with what we did on a daily basis. Great training ground. Not a typical place to work with the freedom we had to get the job done. Most were willing to go the extra distance. Very diverse client base. Unique and interesting projects typically. Powertrain and vehicle work was done at the facility.

    Cons

Oh, let me count the ways! Never any real investment was made to the business. What Lotus purchased 15 years ago is what is still there. Even long time customers made note of this. We always got the job done but, many times at an unacceptable cost to the staff and equipment.
Wrong people in some management/supervisory positions cost time and money over and over and poor employee relationships. At times, a hostile working environment caused by managers/supervisors.
Everything was down to "cost" and not "benefit" to the company/customers. This included basic items.

    Advice to Management

You had a good thing going then, by one poor decision after another by the various parent companies, and the many, many bosses on the other side of the pond we had, tarnished the Lotus brand. You had great people and that is what made Lotus. Not the other way around.
Stop trying to do everything the cheapest way possible as it will cost you more in the end as you are finding out. Your people were your biggest asset and you squandered them away and that was your biggest mistake. All the experts are gone from Group Lotus that had the "Lotus DNA" that was always mentioned and it is only a matter of time before it implodes from this.

    Pros

Interesting scope of work at times, it was great working with the talented individuals that are there. Seems the company is beginning to realize that investment in the business can pay off.

    Cons

For the longest time no investment into the business created a "shoot from the hip" atmosphere. The screening process for hiring is questionable, seems that many employees shine on paper and are not capable of half of the skills they say they have. The down side is, they keep them, creating a negative attitude for the talented people that are constantly called upon to clean up the mess

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in equipment/business, eliminate the politics, make employees accountable. Evaluate the employees, keep the talent and producers and replace the non producers and politicians.. I believe if qualified professional managers/supervisors were put in place many of the issues would be resolved.
