    Pros

Largest single site university campus in uk with very friendly atmosphere and masses of top class sport participation facilities

A Russel Group research university, the 'SAS' for sports students, and consistently in top 10 of most rankings for student experience

    Pros

Able to provide research software engineering support to researchers across Loughborough University and more widely in the new EPSRC Tier 2 centre HPC Midlands Plus

Being removed from live industry causes challenges with keeping abreast of recent changes and trends, which is important on a year-on-year basis

    Advice to Management

Drop requirements for Fortran knowledge since this too specialised to be pertinent in the marketplace, especially as we move forward with AI advances

I worked at Loughborough University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall great environment to work in for most of staff and good modern buildings with up to date facilities in all areas.

    Cons

Not all staff groups have the same promotion and development scope due to operational management issues and as a consequence quite a few left my former department which was STEM focussed to take up other work or retire.

    Advice to Management

Treat all staff equally within your policy on equality and also make sure when issues arise due to non compliance by line managers that they are swiftly dealt with.

I worked at Loughborough University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good working environment with lots of opportunities. Very flexible working hours. Presenting work at conferences and working with external companies as well as other universities was encouraged

    Cons

Very flexible working hours meant it was hard to find people for meetings. Laid back approach by some members of staff meant things took ages to get done

    Advice to Management

Keep a good mix of teaching and researching academic staff
