I worked at Louis Berger full-time

    Pros

The company has projects going in a wide variety of locations and can get you work experience all over the globe. Otherwise, the only real "pros" are reserved for the higher-ups in the company.

    Cons

This company really does not care about their average employees. In my experience, managers avoided the usual costs associated with high turnover rates by providing no training for new employees. Those high turnover rates also had no visible impact on the managers, as they were promoted fairly regularly.

There is very little promotion from within, the company usually just hires new people into higher positions. I only heard about one or two instances of people actually being promoted, and would frequently hear the manager say "we were looking to promote that person" after the employee in question quit. So if you're being hired into one of the higher level positions, the job may work out, but don't expect to work your way up very far.

The culture is extremely toxic, and encourages backstabbing. The more seasoned employees often withhold information or straight up lie to make them harder to replace. Some members of the production team play favorites to the point of forcing some reports to miss deadlines by either moving reports to the back of the queue or refusing to answer phonecalls or emails. Reports could be in production for so long that the material in them fell out of date and needed to be rewritten. The HR department really isn't there for the lower level employees, when I finally tried to contact the HR department regarding a concern, the individual I scheduled a call with skipped our meeting times (with no notice) and rescheduled until I stopped trying to contact them.

Finally, the management relies heavily on ambush tactics. Managers would often wait until the week a project was due (or sometimes after it was due) to even assign workers to it. This pressured the employees into working very long hours and over weekends (overtime was unheard of) in order to complete the (usually under-budgeted) projects. I had some managers intentionally withhold client revisions for a month before forwarding them to me and telling me they were due by close of business that day.

    Advice to Management

Stop viewing employees as so easily replaceable. Yes, you're avoiding turnover costs by not providing training, but you're still losing money while new employees are trying to get used to the system.

    Pros

People are team oriented and team driven. Smart and truly gifted managers. Amazing projects.

    Cons

Business model has been changing and evolving and that's common in the industry moving as quickly as ours. The only real projects we've had are built on strong partnerships. Nothing else has given us real results.

    Advice to Management

Not my place to give advice to people running LB. They must know what impact this recent change has had on talent, or lack there of ever since december.
