I worked at Louis Dreyfus Commodities full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are good! The bonus potential is decent if the company has a good year. Can't think of any other pros..

    Cons

The hours are long, longer than expressed during the interview process. Little training available. Sink or swim mentality. The company's IT system is down quite a bit. There seems to be little room for advancement..

I have been working at Louis Dreyfus Commodities full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You're given a lot of responsibility early on as a trader and the firm trusts you with the latitude to make consequential decisions. It is a good place for someone with an entrepreneurial approach. The organization is more horizontal and you won't have to jump through a lot of hoops to start new projects and get things done. Meritocracy is upheld and those that can prove their abilities will have lots of upward mobility. Additionally, this is a global company and those who wish to work abroad tend to be given those opportunities.

    Cons

There is not a lot of structure or direction early on. Your training almost entirely consists of learning by osmosis. You sit with more senior traders, listen in on conference calls, and pick up jargon and strategy just by being around it. That might work well for some people, but if you require more intensive instruction, you won't find much of it here. The other downside is that compensation is disappointing for more junior traders. The compensation curve seems to be very backloaded as senior traders are treated well, but those in their first 5-7 years seem to be getting paid slightly below market.

    Advice to Management

Establish a intensive training program for new hires. A program like this would allow young traders and analysts to hit the ground running within their roles.
