I worked at Louisiana Delta Community College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful campus and offices. Faculty and staff are dedicated and hard working. Delta is poised to make a difference in people's lives.

    Cons

Acting Chancellor has no experience in Higher Education and comes from Workforce Development. He wants Delta to go back to a being a technical school. Doesn't think academic programs are worth it. "THOSE PEOPLE need to go to ULM or Grambling or Tech. Delta needs to focus on workforce developement.....". School is broke, no money, going through a reorganization to reduce costs...no one is secure....stay away!

    Advice to Management

Get a chancellor who has experience leading an institution of Higher Education.

I worked at Louisiana Delta Community College as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Students were willing to learn, if they came to class. The other instructors were nice to work with and the facilities were fine.

    Cons

They have too many staff and not enough full time faculty. Some locations there are more staff than instructors. They are building new buildings but hiring part-time Adjuncts to teach.

    Advice to Management

Consolidate the staff. There is no need for a full-time director AND assistant director at the small satellite locations.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Louisiana Delta Community College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are major incentives to attending a Community college. Not to mention the obvious financial advantage, and also it is a place where one can knock out the general courses and explore other interests on a schedule that bests works for the student. While attending a Community college one will find some of the best impressive professors that will assist them to the next level of success. Transitional setting and first time generational students can attend.

    Cons

Limited curriculum because this is only a two year college, so you will have to transfer to another college to further your education, lighter workload compared to a four year university and also lack of campus life because juniors colleges do not all have clubs and organizations.

    Advice to Management

Recruit! Recruit! Recruit! Make sure that there are academic advisers on board to lead the student in the right path.

    Pros

    Cons

State of Louisiana has budget deficits, and this sometimes trickles down and is reflected in our school budget...so money is tight as times.

    Pros

Delta Community College provides a supportive environment, a student-friendly approach to management, and a can-do attitude that makes working there a real joy.

    Cons

It's Bobby Jindal's Louisiana. Money is tight, as are resources. The place could use additional funding and less reliance on adjuncts
