I have been working at Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness full-time

    Pros

Outstanding family atmosphere; job has many rewards including serving the public. Pay is exceptional for a State Agency and benefits are very generous.

    Cons

Work in a rather unsafe neighborhood where people are murdered on a semi regular basis. If you are not flexible, this is probably not a good atmosphere for you, as change is constant.

    Advice to Management

The flow and ebb of the day to day activities of the Agency work. You are all doing a good job of allowing all to manage their affairs as they see fit. Keep doing what you are doing. It works.

I worked at Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Planning for and responding to State emergencies is a very rewarding job. I would still be working there if that was the only thing I had to deal with.

    Cons

Executive management was a bunch of two-faced, back stabbing, political minded people that had no qualms with throwing you under the bus if they felt it would get them off the hook or promoted. Waste of money on a lot of projects that just got scraped for junk the next year.

    Advice to Management

Worry more about the citizens of the State and not your personal aspirations.

I have been working at Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Monday through Fridays with 90% of the weekends off. Training is extensive and should be used. This Agency offers refresher training after employees complete their initial training. The company is a great place to work. If that is what a person wants to do.

    Cons

People often complains they were not trained. This is often false people refuse to use the training materials provided to do the work.
