    Pros

    Good people to work with
    Benefits package better than most
    Job advancement possibilities
    Company profits on the rise

    Cons

Success of business hinges on housing market - sometimes highly volatile
Several recent changes in Executive Management

    Advice to Management

Hope the changes at the top are minimized. It can be very disturbing to the rank and file.

    Pros

Big company with lots of resources

    Cons

Internally focused and happy with below average sales reps

    Advice to Management

Replace bad reps with ones that won't live in the past and can actually proactively sell.

    Pros

Networking is more important than performance, which is pretty much the same anywhere. Make sure to identify and maintain those relationships to know what opportunities are coming and get on the radar when the interviews come.

    Cons

Same as Pros. Great performers but poor networkers lose out. Better for them to get promotions at other companies because there is no respect for those who don't take the relationship building initiative.

    Advice to Management

Identify the skills, experience and capabilities needed for jobs and start preparing people to perform those so they will be qualified. This would increase your retention and increase morale.

    Pros

The employees want to do good work, want to be successful, and are engaged in making good products for happy customers.

    Cons

It's still a good ole boy mentality at the top, although a lot better than twenty years ago. Huge penny pinchers!

    Pros

Nice office environment, ok culture. Great people. Tons of work to keep everyone busy.

    Cons

Lack of diversity. Lack of career development. No training to speak of. Building industry is cyclical, so extreme good times/bad times pretty much all the time. Manufacturing environment, so stressful at times even far away from mills and warehouses. Culture rapidly changing since HQ moved to Nashville. New IT systems poses the usual challenges (eg. outsourcing).

    Advice to Management

Say what you mean, and mean what you say.

    Pros

LP was a good place to work and learn new skills. It is a large corporation with small corporate feel. The people are amazing there and loved working with everyone.

    Cons

Instability is the largest issue with LP, as is the case with a lot of places. I hope they keep finding success.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to keep your employees apprised of the companies situation. That was my biggest issue. I was continually told we were doing fine and then one day a bunch of us were let go.
