I worked at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center part-time

    Pros

I loved the other staff I worked with. Flexible hours, pretty good pay for part time. A lot of flexibility in work to be involved with. Got as much experience as you wanted.

    Cons

Lack of structure within the department contrasted with the rigid structure within the overall school. Old policies for all students made some admin work tough.

    Advice to Management

Streamline your policies and procedures for students. You may get more!

I have been working at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center part-time

    Pros

collaborative environment, really flexible hours/management, fun people to work with, stipend is pretty good

    Cons

really disorganized, little oversight by dept heads, shared responsibilities

    Advice to Management

streamline projects and assign duties to singular people

I have been working at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

they will put through POST academy

    Cons

Where do I start on the cons, no supplemental POST premium pay, no details, no take home unit, no raise unless you happen to fight out everyone else kissing buttocks for the promotion. Shifts change without ample time to configure your life around your work hours, mandatory overtime with as little as 2 hrs notice. constant denial of vacation time. Extremely high turnover rate, I've been here less then 4 years and more then a dozen people have left and gone to better departments. If you do real police work, you supervisors wont understand it, and will criticize you for doing so. No motor vehicle stops-no ncic checks on suspicious people you encounter-you can't transport people you arrest (when in the wild blue yonder that actually happens/and your supervisor can comprehend why your arresting them) NOPD has to be called to transport, and they are considered the arresting agency. The college has its own parking enforcement that monitors parking compliance, so you can't even enforce motor vehicle laws. The chief -Joseph Williams is worthless.

    Advice to Management

to little space to even comment on that

I have been working at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center full-time

    Pros

The area and the new hospital has developed significantly over the last 5 years.
The state-of-the-art facility is an eye-catcher and there is excellent patient diversity and population.

    Cons

The reimburse rate is low and faculty practice is managed by a third party management group which makes it very difficult and tricky to make profit from bonuses based on a formula with many variables including collection, third party fees, school taxes, and high overhead. Also no individual marketing is available except some selected physicians. Basically, most physicians are on their own in terms of advertisement and growing their practice. Physicians have almost zero control over the development and expansion.

I have been working at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers tend to be nice, for the most part

    Cons

The facilities are terrible. The number of restrictions that LSU imparts on its employees and its researchers are atrocious. As a researcher I have to log my hours and I am 'Not allowed to go over or under 40 hours in a week. It has to be spot on. Never work here, I am so happy I am leaving soon.

    Advice to Management

The fact that this place still uses paper for most forms (Even the med school doesn't have an online submission for applications) shows how out of the loop it is. Pitiful.
