I have been working at Louisiana Tech University full-time

    Pros

    -Low stress work environment
-Straight forward tasks and expectations (depending on your department)
    -Pretty good benefits
-Pretty much everyone is friendly, and willing to help you out
-Current president (Guice) is interested in keeping students happy
-The majority of people you work with will become like family to you
    -Great work/life balance
-Management is very understanding about needing time for family matters

    Cons

    -TONS of bureaucracy
    -Politics EVERYWHERE
-Numerous committees that don't actually make decisions or have an impact
-Lots of paperwork, sometimes just for simple things
    -Raises are non-existent
-Even though raises are non-existent, you often find your role and responsibilities expanding
-Many of the older faculty and staff members are resistant to change, and keep the university from progressing because they don't want to learn something new, or they aren't open to new ideas

    Advice to Management

Louisiana Tech is an amazing school, and the culture is great. If you want things to run more smoothly, here are some things I think you should keep in mind.

-Stop playing politics all the time. Just because someone is a dean/director, or brings in x amount of dollars, doesn't mean they can do whatever they want
-You need to empower people to make decisions about the trajectory of the university
-You don't need to make a committee for everything, you need be up-front with your intentions and expectations, and you need to be decisive
-Sometimes, the decision that's best for the university will make certain people or departments mad, and that's okay
-With numerous paperless systems and solutions out there, the amount of paperwork on campus is excessive
-If you take care of the faculty and staff, they'll take care of the students
-If you don't give raises or other incentives to your faculty and staff, you'll continue to see the majority of your best employees move on to places that will
