I have been working at Lowe's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Amazing work environment.
    Work with your school schedule.
I literally get paid $4 above minimum wage, in my state, to sit on my butt and do something every 45 minutes- 2 hours.

    Cons

Very little appreciation for part-time employees on the front end. We get all of the abuse from customers and get paid the least amount in the store to fix everyone else's mistakes that we had nothing to do with originally.

I have been working at Lowe's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There is room to grow, benefits are great. It's a lot of fun when you work with people who know what they are doing.

    Cons

Managers don't help much. Specialists don't do much. And everyone forces the lower associates to do all the work while they are paid less.

    Advice to Management

A lot of associates aren't doing their jobs. Which forces management to make others do more work while paid less.

    I worked at Lowe's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Able to transfer from store to store

    Cons

New business model to compete with Home Depot puts more weight below management level.

    Advice to Management

Don't overburden your workers - Yes 10% do 90% of the work, but it is not an excuse to overwork them

    I have been working at Lowe's full-time

    Pros

    Longevity of Company, Good benefits,

    Cons

Don't go in career minded, because the career growth is very slow to none. If you go in without any career expectations, you won't be disappointed. They will put stars in your eyes and mind. However, it's for the success of the company and nothing more.

    Advice to Management

Recognize dedicated employees who have dedicated yrs to the company and gone in with a career mindset and not as a stepping stone to another career. And that they as well are doing all they can to help contribute to the continued success of the company. as well.

I have been working at Lowe's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very great environment to be in. A great position for students that pays well. Plenty of challenges and things to learn.

    Cons

Kinks in management and constant changes that cause fear or moving up. Constant eliminations of full time opportunities.

    Advice to Management

If something isn't broken, there's no need to fix it. By continuing to spread your employees thin and eliminate full time opportunities, you're setting yourselves up for much higher turn over.

I have been working at Lowe's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff (including managers) feels like a family, flexible with college student schedule, above average pay in this area for the type of work. Lots of paid holiday and vacation time even for part time employees.

    Cons

Typical publicly traded company. Many decisions made with only shareholders in mind and then PR tries to put a "Customer Focused" spin on it. Many many rules in place that only protect the business from lawsuits and actually drive away business in many cases.

As of recently, unused holiday time is not paid out and instead just disappears if not used by the end of the fiscal year.

    Advice to Management

Care more about the little guy. While you often stress that there is a lot of potential for upward movement in Lowe's (which is true), the part timers get very little respect. They deserve it just as much as everyone else.

I have been working at Lowe's part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Benefits for part-time are great
Easy to get time off for part-time
     Decent pay for retail
Not decent pay for what you are expected to deal with

    Cons

Part-time hours are first to get cut
Costly benefits when your hours are cut
New management scheme is difficult to work with - 6 more people sitting in offices on weekends, less people on the floor and check out.
Customer management system needs a lot of work, difficult to use.
Expected to work with numerous, and sometimes not integrated, selling systems.

    Advice to Management

Check your new managers, set expectations and guidelines, get them on the floor, MBWA
Help in busy areas, don't just page for help... you took 6 people off of the floor... there isn't anyone... Get off your chair
