I have been working at Lowe's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

being around contractors and learning the tricks of the trade. Have learned a ton from about general home repair from 2 months of work in the building materials section.

    Cons

coworkers are not always as passionate about doing a great job. This applies to all jobs, but it is disheartening to have to compensate for others bad work ethic

    Advice to Management

have more of priority of training crew members on the genesis computer system and various sales programs offered. Very important to doing the job well and a skill that not many employees know

I have been working at Lowe's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits. Pleasant coworkers and management at the store level.

    Cons

Rotating shifts require working weekends and all hours of the day. My shifts vary from 5AM-2PM, 10AM-7PM, and 2PM-11PM. Makes having a life outside of work difficult.
Corporate Lowe's has been cutting upper store-level positions in favor of more part-time and seasonal positions. Unfortunately this reduces the number of trained, knowledgeable people in each store. Customers can't find anyone to help them in many departments, and by the time they find me, they are angry and frustrated. This is stressful on everyone.
I have seen dedicated employees who have been with the company for 15+ years suddenly find their jobs eliminated. This does not encourage company loyalty.

    Advice to Management

Lowe's has historically been a great company to work for, a company that takes care of their employees. Recent corporate decisions to eliminate many management and specialist positions throughout all of the stores, in favor of hiring more part-time and seasonal associates, has resulted in a much greater workload on those of us left. It is hard to find enough part-time applicants who can pass the drug screens to fill the new positions. Those who are hired, may or may not show up for shifts. Yet there is no assurance that my full-time position will continue to exist in the future.
Please provide opportunities and incentives for good employees to stay with the company.
