I have been working at Lowell Community Health Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly employees, very caring and enthusiastic. Focus on southeastern asian populations, very diverse. You are able to explore different cultural in this department. Specially Tuesday, a day set and focus on newly arrived refugees.

    Cons

    1. Lack of space for MA's: we are currently sitting in the soil room. Upper management close there eyes, and ears when walking past us. We are still fighting for our voice to be heard.

    2. There's a disconnect between employees and upper management. Lack of understanding, appreciation, ignore concerns, no trust and listens with resistance.

    3. Under paid, over work. ( every year you get a piece of paper attached to your pay check, asking you to donate to the health center)
At the end of the day, you need to sign yourself up for behavior health.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees well.
    Set goals not numbers.
Listen to your employee, our voice can improve your facility.
    Loyalty goes both way.

They are a people oriented organization that seeks to improve the health outcomes of the underserved. Working with the gives you the privilege of seeing the change in people's health outcomes/ real results.

    Cons

Lowell Community Health Center has limited room for growth. The organization has since 2012 expanded and there is a much high possibility for growth.

I worked at Lowell Community Health Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I felt that the staff at Lowell Community Health Center really wanted to make changes in the community and better the health and safety of the center's patients. There was a strong spirit of wanting to reach out and help the under served people in the area.

    Cons

Often, I did feel that management under appreciated the work that the employees in their department were accomplishing every day for not much pay. This does happen everywhere but people working in community centers are really there for more altruistic reasons and should be treated as such.

    Advice to Management

Less micro-managing, more training at the start of the position.

I have been working at Lowell Community Health Center part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The co workers are wonderful (both supporting staff and clinical staff), the experience gained is valuable; fast paced, patients are complicated and the language/culture adds to the challenge. Staff tends to stay for long periods because they care about the work they do for the underserved city despite typical community setting benefits/salaries.

    Cons

lacking structure in organization making it chaotic and overwhelming. Sometimes chaotic is fun, but can be draining. Unsure if this is common to community settings, can't compare, but from speaking with employees of nearby community clinics, they appear to have better organization.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the staff that are in direct contact with the clients and support them

    Pros

Staff becomes family. It is the glue that usually keeps us motivated enough to stay. The patient population is diverse and HR does a great job finding amazing souls who were born to serve!

    Cons

Employee concerns about office politics go unheard. Business types lead clinical operations. Although, each department is a little different.

    Advice to Management

Too rigid for the pay, and management does not lead by example. We also cannot continue to increase the patient population, if there is not enough staff. Hire people.
