    Pros

    they have good benefits and hard working employees. It's a shame that they never get recognized.

    Cons

    management has no clue to what is going on. Benefits have started to get more expensive and no raises. No career advancement opportunities.

    Pros

    If you managed to get hired prior to 2003 then your retirement pension is a plus but that program is no longer available to new hires.

    Cons

    Cronyism and favoritism rule the day from the very highest position in the company to the front line supervisor. Promotions are typically decided by who you know. That goes on everywhere to a certain extent but at the LCRA it is the defacto way of advancement. It is much more important to play golf with the right people than it is to be good at what you do. Also it's not uncommon for a manager to bring in a favorite of his in a lower pay grade yet pay him at a rate higher then those with significant more seniority and in higher pay grades. That is practiced so routinely that it has destroyed morale in many departments. If you're one of the chosen due to birthright or high school connections, life is good. If you're not, advancement is going to be a real struggle.

    Advice to Management

    Learn how to lead.

    I have been working at Lower Colorado River Authority full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Its really two different companies: Transmission(includes Telecom) and everything else. Transmission is well run, positive and stable. Senior Management is seasoned and proven.

    Cons

    The 'everything else' portion lacks maturity in its operations, which adds chaos, and is a terribly negative place to work. A lot of strong talent enters and then exits within months because of this. Austin having a weak job market is probably the only thing saving them from more attrition.

    Advice to Management

    Pick the few things that work well and focus on those. Building employee moral, and better work/life balance should be paramount right now.

    Pros

    Good wages and medical benefits. Can be a great experience if you have a good supervisor.

    Cons

    Very, very political. Feels like Obama hell!! Pointless programs that are smoke and mirrors, particularly their water conservation and community relations efforts. Endless meetings and goal setting that are a waste of time. Texas, get rid of LCRA! Turn it over to a private company to operate. And for God's sake fill up Lake Travis.

    Advice to Management

    You are horrible. My advice is not to you. It's to Governor Perry. Shut down LCRA!!!
