I worked at Lucasfilm (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of really talented people. My department was made up of an amazing team - we all got on great and everyone really looked after each other. My team consisted mostly of contractors as I was working on the film sets in London during production, but I also interacted with the permanent staff in San Francisco as they were the bosses I'd report to. I learned a lot during my time there and we had access to some really amazing resources.

    Cons

Very corporate hierarchy (Disney) and so at times it felt difficult to get certain things done. Sometimes it was also hard to feel innovative because the roles are very specialised and specific.

I have been working at Lucasfilm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture of Lucasfilm is like no other studio I've worked at yet. Even though the studio was purchased by Disney, it still feels like they attempt to hold onto things that made the culture great in the days of George. Though the Disney culture can be seen slowly taking over, things like the annual 4th of July picnic, trivia night, and other things harken back to the feel of before.
The employees who are in the trenches, doing the work, are some of the most passionate and talented people I've worked with.

    Cons

In the process of becoming a true movie studio again, there are some growing pains in regards to upper management. It can feel like there is a disconnect between middle management and the executives, especially with some of them living outside of San Francisco and spending so little time on site.
It seems like the Disney way is taking hold in that executives are being promoted and taking on more responsibility, creating larger and larger voids that are not being filled. Extra responsibility is being offloaded onto middle management and below, without properly recognizing their struggles and successes.

    Advice to Management

As you go through these times of change, dont forget to look to within for leadership and innovation. There are scores of talented people working for you who would love the chance to step up and show you what they can do.

    I worked at Lucasfilm full-time

    Pros

    Singapore studio only.
Good benefits, great people to work with, great place to learn skills

    Cons

Salary increase is tiny, very little chance of promotion,

    Advice to Management

Try to promote people in the studio rather than hire people from outside. You will get the employee's loyalty.

I worked at Lucasfilm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The product is loved and there is a lot of recognition among friends and family.
Highest skill/professionalism in co-workers. Everyone is a top tier pro.

    Cons

No room for mistakes. Fear of executive presence. No perks compared to other entertainment companies. No stock purchase plan. Expensive dining commons. Little room for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Pay is too low for how hard it is to get the job, only vets get hired and the pay is near junior level. Scheduling is too tight for work life balance.

I have been working at Lucasfilm full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with who genuinely want to create the best work possible. Get to work on one of the biggest brands in the world. Great location.

    Cons

Hard to move up. Pay does not keep up with cost of living in Bay Area. Management moves slowly to make any effective changes, if it all.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in existing employees. Reward them with pay and position that fit the work they are actually doing, which is most often more than their job description.

I have been working at Lucasfilm full-time

    Pros

Your team is your best asset. You're surrounded by exceptionally talented, passionate, creative, fun people. The culture is still pretty good after the Disney acquisition.

    Cons

Disney's benefits are terrible. Pay is notoriously low and with the bureaucratic structure, it's difficult to get anything done. Paired with the love for the work, getting to build Star Wars, and the day-to-day culture, it's golden handcuffs.

    Advice to Management

Reward your workers. Disney brags about record profits, but the average worker sees none of that. It's demoralizing.
