All changed when they got acquired by GE. All went south from that point.

I worked at Lufkin Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I had the chance to work with some really good people over the years and was able to gain some valuable experience.

    Cons

The good ol boy system is well established here. It is very difficult for even the best of employees to advance unless you are part of the click! Also, after the sell-out, job security is a thing of the past.

    Advice to Management

Be more open minded to giving capable employees the chance to advance, even if they aren't in your "click".

I worked at Lufkin Industries (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company was big but small enough to know their employees. The rating below are for Lufkin Ind!! 5 stars all for LUFKIN..not GE

    Cons

When bought out by GE Oil & GAS, the changes did not benefit the needs of the company.I dont believe Lufkin expected the way it is now being ran.

    Advice to Management

Always remember we all have to start somewhere. Take time to train your employees the proper way. It will save time in the field and save down time.

I worked at Lufkin Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Above average pay, good benefits, good learning experiences, and competitive hours. And excellent compensation for tenure.

    Cons

It was a dirty job and the lunch break wasn't always honored. Sometimes you had to find time to eat.

Former Employee - Machinist/Foundryman in Lufkin, TX

I worked at Lufkin Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Close to home, low turnover rate, the only decent paying industrial job in the city. Benefits, 401k.

    Cons

Not enough pay for the general labor duties, sold the company to GE and layed off 65 % of the employees within 3 months of them taking over.

    Advice to Management

It's too late for any advice that would help the company.

    Pros

Okay benefits since they were bought out by GE. Monday through Friday is always nice.

    Cons

Underpaid for the type of work and it is very dangerous.
They do not promote the most qualified person because they promote people that they just like, even if they have no clue as to what they are doing. if you are a working in the field and sales and work slows down it is your fault even though you are just told what and where to go do your job. Management and sales are not held accountable even if they just show up in the morning and then go find a quiet place to go to sleep, or go to home after they leave the office but not before going to buy booze to take with them when they're supposed to be looking for work.

    Advice to Management

They need to promote the right people to help the company move forward. Management needs to stop being selfish and think of the company as a whole.
