I worked at Lufkin Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I had the chance to work with some really good people over the years and was able to gain some valuable experience.

    Cons

The good ol boy system is well established here. It is very difficult for even the best of employees to advance unless you are part of the click! Also, after the sell-out, job security is a thing of the past.

    Advice to Management

Be more open minded to giving capable employees the chance to advance, even if they aren't in your "click".

I have been working at Lufkin Industries full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Salary is better than same tiered positions at other companies.

    Cons

    - Lufkin was acquired by GE a couple of years ago but GE is currently out of touch with this sector because everything still is running the "Lufkin way"
    - Poor work environment.
    - Chaotic management practices
Nothing is planned... always a "go with the flow style".
    - Coming from the tech world to OIl & Gas is a nightmare... everything is old and outdated, from the project management methodologies to the software tools to the work conditions.
    - Management is the epitome of "Good ole boys".
    - Theres no flexbility to work at home.
    - Management has no focus on developing employees and helping them to achieve there own goals... its all about "do this project now and do it fast"...there is no thought on quality.
    - There have been a lot of layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Get more in touch with your employees.
    Provide more flexibility.
Put more focus on developing your employees and less on the here and now.

    Pros

Lufkin was a great company to work for before General Electric purchased them. Autonomy was great, pay was acceptable, benefits were great. Management really listened and cared. They still have some great managers but GE has really restricted them and has crushed morale. In short, Lufkin was a great company to work for until GE purchased them, now it's pretty terrible. GE is not a good company to be employed by.

    Cons

GE has ruined the whole company now that they have purchased them. Lufkin was one of the last companies in the oil field service demographic that still manufactured their products in America. GE ended that and has now sent everything overseas, destroying quality, brand image, and eliminating thousands of American jobs. Thanks GE.

    Advice to Management

There's nothing you can do, quit and go work for a company that isn't owned by GE. That's what I did.

I worked at Lufkin Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Close to home, low turnover rate, the only decent paying industrial job in the city. Benefits, 401k.

    Cons

Not enough pay for the general labor duties, sold the company to GE and layed off 65 % of the employees within 3 months of them taking over.

    Advice to Management

It's too late for any advice that would help the company.

I worked at Lufkin Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Only decent paying job in the area, good 401k, possibility for great overtime.

    Cons

Company will not value your hard work, will not offer any bonuses with the exeption of a fish fry, Company is extremely cold hearted when it comes to family/personal values. Some departments will show favorisim towards the "afro-american" decent.

    Advice to Management

Offer bonuses, be more organized and pay more attention to detail rather then he said she said statements! People that actually work hard and are dedicated to their employer seem to be the ones to get fired/laid off, rather then those who are constantly calling in or being late.

I have been working at Lufkin Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Steady paycheck. They do offer benefits.

    Cons

No incentives, no bonus pay, no holiday acknowledgement, no personal touches whatsoever, very cold impersonal company. Work you 80 hours a week and if you are salaried no extra pay and zero bonuses as any incentive for so much time. HR is screwy and screwed up my benefits.

    Advice to Management

Employ more knowledgeable higher ups, add incentives and better pay for more work.
