I worked at Luma Pictures for more than a year

    Pros

    - I was able to grow as an artist while working on some of the best projects I've been apart of. - There as a strong sense of community. - Most everyone is willing to lend their support in helping others learn. - Vacation to Fiji with the whole staff! - Surrounded by a ton of talent.

    Cons

    - Luma can get a bit clicky. - A lot of different personality types.

    Advice to Management

Keep the upstairs staff more informed of what is happening with the rest of Luma.

I worked at Luma Pictures for less than a year

      Pros

      * Free unlimited snacks * Great Location * Many food options around

      Cons

      * Company culture is off. You're either part of the clique or you're seen as an "odd ball". Very high schoolish mentality * You're almost required to hang out with everyone after work. If not, you'll seem like an outsider

I have been working at Luma Pictures full-time for less than a year

      Pros

The location is a 10-15 minute walk to the beach, readily available snacks, good place to get your foot in the door if you are a young artist fresh out of college, free screenings of the films we work on, OT meals if they ask you to work through lunch or stay late, there are some good people with kind hearts that you can find if you look hard enough.

      Cons

Certain people have created an environment that can be compared to high school. They take roll at 9am every day (lunch is dedicated to 1-2 pm), incredibly fake human beings, will talk behind everyone and anyones back, and try to enforce policies that are illegal. Not to mention that for Halloween last year they threw a Fetish themed party at the office where they decorated the office (during work hours) with porn and...

      Advice to Management

Find someone that can reign in and manage the culture. You've lost a lot of valuable employees in the last 6-12 months due to petty issues. There is a common trend to the reviews people leave on here, it might be time to actually listen to them.

I worked at Luma Pictures full-time

      Pros

Luma works on lots of high-profile films + they have a dedicated culture team that takes good care of the artists.

      Cons

things move along very slowly there. i believe they have been working to get their content division up and running for a while. great ideas when it eventually happens! And, while have a dedicated culture team is great, some of the events are a bit fratty - think drinking, mustaches, lots of themes.

      Advice to Management

there are a lot of great things in the works there just seems to move very slow to bring them to market.

I worked at Luma Pictures full-time

      Pros

Modern studio & decor in a nice area. Plenty of cafes nearby. Easy access to public transport. Free breakfast & snacks. Big film projects. Nice coworkers who made me feel welcome. Luma is a good option for students wanting to get into the industry. Luma often sees potential in juniors/mids & gives them opportunities they would otherwise not have until further in the careers. Some artists have been at Luma for years. This...

      Cons

I did not want to post a negative review but outspoken employees are shown the door. Luma is cliquey & my department was split in groups. One side was reserved for friends of the supervisor. The other side had quieter people & this latter group was very welcoming. Supervisors showed clear favoritism to the clique of friends which caused friction between the groups rendering the team dysfunctional. The studio culture...

      Advice to Management

Luma is confusing. Your culture discriminates against quiet people & mature people. Some prefer to work in a professional workplace. Some people prefer to go home to their families instead of partying. There are talented artists across the globe but with the loud music blaring everywhere, the drinking, culture games, favoritism, low pay you are limiting your choices of employees to a very small puddle. You can continue...

I have been working at Luma Pictures full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Office is in the heart of Santa Monica. Most of the people there are genuinely talented. Getting to work on big-name movies. There are extravagant yearly parties and company trips. There's a chance to visit Melbourne, AU if interested.

      Cons

Office is in the heart of Santa Monica. High-school like with a head count at 9am. Culture is more of a cult than anything; superficial and fake. Asking for a raise or a title change will probably result in being laid off. Difficult to express concerns about management considering there's no recourse. Lack of communication between departments, possibly due to belief in dailies being a waste of time. Trying to grow...

      Advice to Management

Just because someone's been around for so long or are amazing at what they do, doesn't automatically mean they can manage anyone, let alone themselves. Consider investing in actual HR instead of this flashy cult-culture.

      I worked at Luma Pictures

      Pros

      - The team is awesome. The junior, mid, and senior level artists are all really smart really talented people. - Get to work on high profile features. - Get credited on high profile features. - The HR / Culture team is a big focus for Luma. Which means as an employee you have a group of people hired to help make your time as fun as possible. Haven't really seen something like this at this level anywhere else. Fancy...

      Cons

      - There can be stress filled long days, mostly towards the end of a show. I don't think thats avoidable in the VFX / production world. One other pro about Luma is they do the best they can to protect against that while also making sure the client is happy. Tough balancing act. At the end of the day the clients need to want to keep coming back to Luma (and they do) so there can be some dense days, but I think Luma does...
