I have been working at Lumileds full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lumileds has really smart people who enjoy sharing knowledge and enjoy working with one another. I really felt welcome and enjoy the work that i do and the people that i work with... Management really tries to thank employees by having raffles to attend concerts, events, etc.. at Levi's stadium.

    Cons

Office politics can be draining on the morale of employees... it's not at the worker bee level but at the management level.

    Advice to Management

You have some really bright and talented people. Please do something to retain them! Apple and Lab126 are hungry for Lumileds employees it seems. It's sad to see good teammates and friends leave Lumileds.

    Pros

Very respectful of opinions. Listens at all levels. Clear goal setting and transparent review process.

    Cons

Just bought by PE. Starting to tighten down on all financials such as CapEx and starting of new ventures research projects

    Advice to Management

Find a way to retain good people. Apple drains too many good technical people

    I worked at Lumileds full-time

    Pros

Relaxed office because everyone is checked out. Good 401k match but no RSUs/options.

    Cons

The red flags are endless. It is a toxic and political environment with epic incompetence of the engineering management, HR, and Recruiting. Your benefits still won't work properly after six months. It is not worth spending any amount of your life at this company.

The mass exodus of good engineers continues steadily as of June 2018 and those still there are disgruntled and actively looking.

There is zero real accountability from senior management and a dysfunctional silo structure, so directors/engineers fail at their jobs and are protected for years. There is no sense of product ownership to just get the job done. If you try, you are met with massive backlash from each silo and your own mgmt. Directors would rather blame and complain and posture instead of doing the work. In fact, my boss said that complaining a lot is what got him his position. The most frequent phrase I heard throughout the company was "that's not my job."

My boss would lash out about the irrelevant, micromanage while ignoring everything critical, throw his direct reports under the bus, and build cases against us, all out of desperation due to his own insecurity and incompetence. Even after many reports to mgmt, universal recognition of his behavior and 100% turnover of his team, he is still there.
Verbal tantrums and sexual harassment were tolerated and if you reported it you were gas-lighted and retaliated against by both mgmt and HR.

    Advice to Management

Executive/VP team should stop being oblivious and clean house. Incentivize real technical progress and good culture by getting into the weeds and get rid of dead weight. Hold 360 reviews. It is clear there is no will to get out of this downward spiral, so Apollo should just sell the company so the competent overseas mfg can be absorbed by someone better.

    Pros

Reasonable set of benefits, seems to be expanding, hiring people and (perhaps) internal promotions.

    Cons

It's a pressure cooker. I'm reluctant to paint the entire company due to my experience with one manager, but overall trend that people there told me was the stress level and work load has increased dramatically in the past year since the Philips divestment and Apollo acquisition. If working in San Jose CA, one must be prepared for frequent (almost daily) evening phone calls to their Malaysia facility, hence meetings starting anytime from 5pm to 10 pm (or later), including Sunday. If you have and value your family, I cannot recommend this place. If you are a night owl and have no interests outside of work, it could be okay.

    Advice to Management

You're burning out your employees. Don't expect everyone to keep CEO hours.

    Pros

There is a lot of exciting innovation happening within the company. There are a great deal of new products and advancements happening, but most of the positives are overshadowed by the negatives.

    Cons

The culture needs to evolve with the company . Nothing has changed under the new management in terms of culture, and the work enviroment reflects that. There is no strucutre for collaboration or comradery. Also not a place for someone that wants to work with their manager to grow and work towards career path.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees about how they feel about work environment. Don't just listen to management. Ask the people that are in the office daily.
