I have been working at Lumileds full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some of the managers are really good to work with and care about you. Some of the coworkers are enjoyable to talk with. Lots of autonomy even right out of school. Great work life balance, and health insurance benefits were relatively cheap. 3 weeks paid vacation.

    Cons

Poor management means that you probably don’t get to use your vacation when you want to, 2 years in a row they have forced employees to take vacation at specific times. They routinely lay people off. It is difficult to get work done when the next lay-off is looming. Whether you have a good experience is 100% up to the mercy of your manager, which is due to a completely unestablished company culture. My first manager was great, second manager was terrible. Although others have had managers even worse. Top management sets “ambitious” goals that are unrealistic and then holds the front line workers responsible, even when the front line workers have been setting realistic achievable goals the whole time. There’s a huge disconnect between upper management and the front line, in large part this is due to the middle management being “yes people”. They never challenge upper management, and constantly agree to unrealistic goals because they’re too afraid to give upper management a realistic view of the organization. Thus each year budgets are way too high because they are based on “expected revenue” while actual revenue is never anywhere near the “expected” level.

I worked at Lumileds full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Learn a ton, lots of folks with good technical chops to learn from Global footprint; good DNA (HP, Philips) Nice campus

    Cons

Cutthroat industry. Must innovate and bring to market ahead of competitors to sustain HQ in San Jose. Unfortunately Lumileds has swung and missed a couple time and it is hard to recover.

    Pros

    Flexible work life balance.

    Cons

This company is one of the worst company’s I’ve worked for. Management is full of old white men who have no clue as to what they are doing. All processes are so outdated it’s so embarrassing to even talk about. They keep going in circles with org changes and laying people off every quarter bc they can’t meet their sales. All old people are promoted to director and sr. Level roles because they can’t retain the fresh young talent. Horrible company!!!!!

I have been working at Lumileds full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are some people who really know what they're doing and it's great to work for a company that's developing innovations in LED. The team I personally work on offers a lot of flexibility, in terms of hours, working remotely, etc. It's a global company so you get lots of experience working with different business units across the world.

    Cons

Infrastructure and systems are overly complicated (and sometimes lacking). Workforce is pretty old so things aren't the most exciting, most of the time. Amenities aren't great (not a lot of employee perks)...

I have been working at Lumileds full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very good pay and bonuses, exceptional co- workers

    Cons

Good grief... where do I begin? Vicious back- stabbing VPs who have never had a successful product launch. You question any of these tyrants decision and you will be laid off in the next bi-annual layoffs. Yes that is right the company has layoffs like clockwork every six months. Managers who know how to manage up but cannot manage their employees . Product after product that just do not make make economic sense. Astonishingly there are still good engineers who work here but for the life I cannot figure out why they stay. The LED industry is a commodity business and is getting more cutthroat all the time- do not work here if you have other work options.
