    Cons

There's a lot of self-motivation needed. You get out of the company whatever you put in it. Also there's nothing to do in Coopersburg but drink.

    Pros

Great place to start. Opportunity to become a lifer if you so choose. But you have to love the area and the lifestyle. Lots to learn and people are there to help you learn and grow.

    Cons

Has growing pains. Has big company ambitions but carries small company problem. Pay is middle of the road. Not too good, not too bad.

    Advice to Management

Be a little disruptive and break some molds. Take measured chances and see if better outcomes can be achieved.

    I worked at Lutron full-time

    Pros

Having left Lutron for almost a year, I had some time to reflect on my time at Lutron. There are a lot of great things going on for this company, especially in Engineering, devotion to quality, constant strive for improvement, and the generally collaborative nature of the company across departments. If you are an engineer, this is one of the best places to start a career. If you have a reason to settle down in NE Pennsylvania, this is probably one of the best places to remain for the rest of your career.

    Cons

The root of all the cons for Lutron is its business model and profitability, which results in short term thinking, lower pay (almost non-existence bonus), travel policies that were frustrating and less than stellar company perks compared to other tech companies. I mean, the location is not that great, and without perks, it's hard to attract the talent they need. Part of it is probably because of the industry itself, but I think mainly Lutron can do a much better job marketing their products.

    Advice to Management

Please keep engineering's "candor" and collaborative culture alive! Don't lose it, as it is the best asset you have. Lutron has great high quality products, but I believe it hasn't reach it's full potential due to a lack of true B2C marketing strategy. Spend more money on Marketing and trust outside professionals since there is almost zero true marketing knowledge in the company. Also, please be more vigorous in your middle management/director level outside-hires. The wrong hire can really disrupt the culture and disincentives your current employees you have going for you.

I worked at Lutron full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

+ Exceptional place to start a career - large incoming class of college graduates helps to create a community from day one
+ Company seeks to fill positions from within, making for numerous opportunities for personal and career growth
+ Engineering department invests heavily in providing any tools needed to get the job done

    Cons

    - Culture is (was?) built on fear of top leadership
    - Location of headquarters is a great match for some people but not most - makes it difficult to recruit
    - Company has a "only if invented here" mentality making it sometimes slow to respond to market changes

    Advice to Management

Shake up the top management and reach into your deep bench of talent.
