I worked at Lynchburg College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked in many different roles at LC, and I enjoyed all of them. The people there are great to student workers and there are lots of opportunities.

    Cons

I think the pay is one downside, because it's typically minimum wage. You're also only allowed to work one job now, which is frustrating for future student workers.

    Advice to Management

Raise the pay for hard work, let students work more than one job because they need the money.

I worked at Lynchburg College full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    accommodating to students

    Cons

they really push the family metaphor, but it's not true.
culture and morale has been on the downswing for a while.
    loyalty is rewarded over performance
most of the people work there because they have nowhere else to go.
leadership is out of touch with the realities of today's workforce and very they (the administration) is unpredictable.

    Advice to Management

try not managing with your egos.

I worked at Lynchburg College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The campus is very pretty and well designed. The city of Lynchburg is just large enough to provide basic amenities while avoiding the pains of big-city life.

    Cons

Too many of the students are obnoxious East Coast students who couldn't get into more prestigious universities, so settle on LC. The teaching load is high and the support for research is mediocre at best.

    Advice to Management

Get a new president. Garren has been there much too long.

I worked at Lynchburg College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People care about and support each other in their best interests - whether those interests are on or off campus.

    Cons

Those who work inside of the classroom often work long hours and take work home regularly.

    Advice to Management

I encourage you to continue listening to your employees. They are in the trenches daily and know what is working and not working for them and for the students. If the faculty/staff aren't consistently supported, how can they support the students?! Think about it... it works much like the "happy husband/wife, happy home/life" saying.

    Pros

    College cares about it's employees

    Cons

Hours are terrible with not much chance to advance (unless a buddy gets appointed as a supervisor)

    Advice to Management

Appoint personnel based on training and experience, not on the buddy system

    Advice to Management

Expand the school it should be larger as more students are accepted every year.

    Pros

    -great benefits
-good amount of respect for time off needed for family illness, etc
    -very caring community
-jobs are fairly stable and secure

    Cons

-"family" atmosphere is used to explain unprofessional approaches
    -loyalty is rewarded over performance
-upper management is sometimes blind to the needs of the "common worker"
    -wide disparity across different departments

    Advice to Management

Find a way to encourage and listen to feedback in a safe, anonymous way from the masses. There's a lot going on that doesn't make it to the top.
