I worked at M&T Bank as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was definitely a good first internship and a good way to get experience. I met a lot of great people and if the financial industry was a long term goal of mine it would be a great company to work for.

    Cons

I did no real work during the summer. I was labeled a technology intern and the hardest piece of technology I worked with was Microsoft Excel. I felt extremely undervalued at $12 per hour, gained no real world technological experience. My job was boring and tedious and was basically glorified data entry.

    Advice to Management

Be more up front about actual responsibilities and compensate your interns at a competitive rate. $12 an hour in the tech industry is laughable and embarrassing. M&T Bank is now my fallback plan for this summer if for some reason I can't get a more reasonable offer.

    Pros

    Decent Pay
    Nice Intern program
Everyone is very nice and willing to help you learn about their side of the business

    Cons

Most of the members are older so many of them are not up to date with many of the newer technologies. Makes working with them difficult if they can barely navigate their own computer

    Advice to Management

Keep trying to recruit young people you will be in trouble soon if you don't bring in some new fresh ideas.

I have been working at M&T Bank as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is really friendly, the work area is nice, work life balance is perfect, flexible schedule, lots of parking spots, good cafeteria food

    Cons

The work there becomes monotonous and it can get quite boring. There isn't a lot of opportunities and the work you do doesn't seem to be paid attention to

I worked at M&T Bank as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hours are 9-5 and they won't play any overtime. The work is easy enough once you get the hang of it. My co workers are friendly and have been very helpful.

    Cons

The work is inconsistent, some days I am really busy and then I will go days without doing more than an hour of work. The computers are extremely old and they need to update their software.

I worked at M&T Bank as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of great networking opportunities, access to senior management, many learning opportunities. The bank is very stable and constantly growing, albeit at a slower pace than others but still growing while others may be taking losses and MTB is quite conservative.

    Cons

Complaints from some of the entry level workers as being stuck in their roles for too long, could pay a little more

    Advice to Management

Make sure to recognize the efforts of the underlings, increase pay a bit more and possibly get out of your comfort zones to continue making MTB the best

    Pros

People are extremely friendly and outgoing.

    Cons

Innovation is stifled. Very static and resistant to change. Management makes poor hiring decisions.

    Advice to Management

Actively recruit young talent. Expand MDP and EA programs. Compensate better.
