I worked at MACOM (Less than a year)

    Pros

Interesting company with a very long technology heritage which had been bumped from owner to owner in the last twenty years. More interested in acquisitions than the internal growth.

    Cons

Needs to flatten the company management structure. It cannot keep riding on the few cash cows as the industry is rapidly changing with many new competitors coming to the market.

    Advice to Management

Simplify, simplify, simplify. Share the vision with the employees, contractors, etc.

Please be sure to check out the CEO blogs on the company intranet, and the investor relations site as well, where you can find a lot more information on the company and where we want to be both today ... More

I worked at MACOM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very friendly environment with helpful people all around the place. The company itself is doing well these days with promising markets coming up. I was only an intern there for less than 3 months. So this review is not a thorough one.

    Cons

Tight security control. Not really a con, but it is inconvenient sometimes.

I worked at MACOM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people at M/A-Com are very smart and hardworking, and I gained a lot from the people around me. The facilities were excellent for a semiconductor company. Good sized company in my opinion, not too big, not too small. I thought having a fab on site was an incredible opportunity for anyone involved in ICs, especially for process oriented engineers. Hours were flexible (even for non-interns), which contributed to a happy culture. For a military contractor this company is very relaxed without sacrificing productivity and growth. Another perk is that they let interns attend the company conference, which was a fun and informative experience.

    Cons

As an intern it was sometimes hard to get work that was taken seriously. I spent a lot of time making work for myself, which, while enjoyable, may not have been the best for getting experience at the company.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it relaxed but productive.

I have been working at MACOM full-time

    Pros

MACOM is a good company for an Engineer to learn by hands-on experience. Competitive salary and compensation. Company has grown in many new areas over the last several years.

    Cons

Company is very spread out across the globe which is probably a good thing. However, it often seems to be less efficient working with several people at many locations for different tasks rather than a more localized facility.

    Advice to Management

Would recommend providing better training/documentation on executing key tasks, especially when introducing new processes.

I worked at MACOM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The place was very nice to work. The managers were very technical and supportive. Some flexibility at work, challenging design projects.

    Cons

Medical benefits were expensive. The cost of medical plan (HSA & PPO) went up each year.

    Pros

Great company, aggressive growth in the market. Good work-life balance.

    Cons

Somewhat overstaffed at the Director level. Too many Chiefs not enough Indians! Some departments are overstaffed as well - i.e. HR, IT, Finance. Lots of people doing the same stuff.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget the little people. We are below the Directors but above the mice. We matter too -communicate better with us!
