I have been working at MAG Industrial Automation Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting product offering, low volume high mix. Can be challenging at time. Great people. Can not comment enough on the people they are the best part of working there.

    Cons

Upper management at the corporate level only out for the short term profits. No to minimal reinvestment. Should improve with new owners.

    Advice to Management

Value the employee more and reinvest to improve the company.

I have been working at MAG Industrial Automation Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You could not find a better group of people to work with.

    Cons

Horrible management - the company is run by the finance department. They have not long term plan. They are only interested in cash receipts. "Quality & reputation have suffered because of this.

  3. "Good old boy management team is out of touch with current best management practices."

    Pros

Good benefits, good co-workers, interesting technology in aerospace and energy markets

    Cons

Machine tool industry is very cyclic. No raises in past 3 years, 10% pay cut, bonues eliminated. Furloughs and lay-offs are too frequent. Wages are relatively low. Too much work and not enough employees. Employee training is next to non-existent. Management is "old school". Too much of "it's who you know, not what you know".

    Advice to Management

Send all managers - from the top down through first line supervision to training on how to be effective managers, or better yet, how to be effective leaders. HIT = dis-Honesty, lack-of-Integrity, and mis-Trust. Most of your employees work very hard to try to keep the company afloat - reward them for it. Implement 360 degree reviews for all managment.

    Pros

    Training and learning opportunities
    Company benefits
Ability to get credit and recognition for a job well done
    Pay range of position

    Cons

Travel is often necessary, including some foreign travel.
There are too many levels of management in the organization for the size.

    Advice to Management

Flatten the organization. This will allow those who are not doing a quality job to be seen and recognized for what they are doing.

    Pros

Excellent co-workers, straight answers, low backbiting. Management is straightforward and hard working. Fun projects to work on.

    Cons

Engineer salary is constantly in the lower 25th percentile as measured on Salary.com.
Cyclical nature of business periodically threatens job security.

    Advice to Management

Implement a bonus system. Just can't understand why every employed colleage I know has a bonus and my company does not. System would put pressure where required.

    Pros

Perhaps from the viewpoint of an engineer in the machinery industry this company may have plausible merits.

    Cons

After you deal with the CEO you will be so sorry you EVER saw this place, heard it's name and MET HIM or dealt with him in any capacity whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

Management knows once you're in there, there's no escape, your life is entirely destroyed by one despotic ruler there who will make your life a living hell and then try to destroy you if you dare leave.
