I worked at MAVERICK Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

MAVERICK is a growing company and that means a lot of opportunities to grow with them.

    Cons

Coming from a much larger company I found some resistance to change that you would not see in a larger company. I think this happens because people feel more personal ownership in the way things have been set up.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing and try to keep emotion out of decisions and actions that directly affect the employees.

I have been working at MAVERICK Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Maverick Technologies has a great company atmosphere. All of the upper management is extremely friendly and always out there to chat. There is also a good amount of freedom in work-life balance.

    Cons

It's a bit difficult to move up in the organization. They promote people who are capable of only doing one thing up before they hire people with relevant skills across the board. It all depends on how billable an employee is.

Their pay, insurance, 401K is pretty sub-par. There are a lot more competitive companies out there. They seem to give out the same wages for job title despite where you live, so definitely missing out on competitive pay.

Projects are hit or miss. Sometimes you get good projects, other times you get projects that will make you want to tear out your hair in frustration. Projects are highly dependent on the Project Manager you get. They will scrutinize every hour on your time card down to a T. There's also a lot of relocation and travel included in the work. If you're not down to travel, they will likely not consider you come time for performance reviews.

They can't seem to retain top talent. There's a lot of new hires coming in and a lot of senior level employees leaving.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job retaining your top talent. There's a lot of disconnect between upper management and employees that really makes everybody unhappy.

    Pros

Very professional environmental and family friendly. Fun break room with ping pong and foosball. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

    Cons

My position was only part time. They outsource a lot of their accounting so not a lot of work to do.

    Pros

    Great culture
    Flexible work schedule
    Platform agnostic so great exposure
    Team oriented
    Small company feel
Lots of locations and opportunities to travel

    Cons

When the manufacturing industry slows down, so does work for us so it's either booming or super slow
Projects very often come up quickly so there isn't much notice as far as travel requirements are concerned

    Advice to Management

None, they're doing a great job and the new acquisition by rockwell automation should open lots of new doors for our employees and help project work pick up rather quickly

I worked at MAVERICK Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great work life balance.
Good benefits package includes PTO, short and long term disability insurance, vision and dental coverage, discretionary 401k matching.
    Ability to work remotely.
Plenty of training for new engineers.
    Newly Developed Professional Development Program
Get to travel during startup and commissioning.

    Cons

Very slow career growth for new engineers due to a lack of work. Their promotion ladder still seems to be based on 20th century standards. New talent wants faster career growth opportunities and doesn't want to wait 15 years to become a Senior Engineer. An Engineer 1 should be able to become a senior Engineer or project manager within 5-6 years of starting which doesn't seem possible at this company due to a lack of project work.

They were not able to reap the full benefits of the investment on training as alot of senior engineers and sales people left. This led to a loss of work and the company had to lay off quite a few number of engineers nation wide in 2016. This was in addition to the people that had already left the company.

The wave of hiring and realignment was not a sound business decision that was based on research or grounded in reality.

    Advice to Management

Hire sales people with contacts and retain senior engineers as they are the pillars of this company that will help bring in new work.

Base hiring decisions on project work that's already in the pipeline.

    Pros

Great people and the owner does spend money on his people. Equipment is top notch, offices are improving. Owner is an Engineer and is very knowledgeable about the business

    Cons

Owner is hyper excitable and fires people way too often for a professional job. I saw more people fired in my 4 years there than my previous 25 years. It was basically weekly that a key person was suddenly fired.

    Advice to Management

Become more cautious on short term issues. Need to work to address long term goals through consistency letting people go suddenly does happen sometimes, but it happens way too often in Maverick for a team environment to flourish.
