I worked at MBIA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of interesting technology, some very knowlable people in the operations group.

    Cons

Desktop helpdesk has to handle a lot of crap that the operations team breaks or deploys. many times had to come in on a saturday to test stuff that was ultimately broken by other teams... like do these people just push buttons andthen break stuff.

    Advice to Management

Helpdesk users know what is goingon and there are many issues that could be resolved. you should look at their feedback and request it more. There is no open diaglouge we would have "meetings" regarding this but nothing would be acted on.

I have been working at MBIA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It pays well and people are very professional. They also have summer hours, where you leave at 2:00pm on Friday

    Cons

The company is running off. I am not sure the company will be around for more than 5 years. There will not be much growth for new employees.

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits and good people with a long history at the organization.

    Cons

The culture at the company has shifted since the economic crisis and it doesn't feel like one company. Divisions feel like silos rather than one unit.

I have been working at MBIA full-time

    Pros

Outstanding compensation and benefits. Convenient location for people living north of NYC. Work life is generally fairly reasonable but depends upon department within the company.

    Cons

Can be difficult to make progress in career. Many long-timers at the top ranks who are not as open to change.

    Advice to Management

Keep employees as informed as possible about changes as the company re-builds itself. Be honest in the progress as well as issues which arise. Work to help employees understand how their careers can progress and what they need to do to achieve their career goals.
