    Pros

    The staff is lives the core values of caring, integrity and discovery! There is a fantastic sense of hope among staff and patients. The administration is supportive and makes everyone feel that they are making cancer history. They are building a huge gym for employees to support healthy-lifestyles.

    Cons

    There are no downsides! I should really pay them to allow me the honor of working with such an amazing team of people.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work! If I had one wish, I would love if the institution shared in the expense of parking.

    Commute is getting tougher. Parking in the Med Center area is expensive and sometimes hard to get.

    Pros

    I have worked for M.D. Anderson for the past twenty years. I have never seen or heard of a better hospital to work in. From upper-management, to faculty, to supervisors, to staff, MDA has aimed to create employee retention and employee satisfaction. MDA continue to be the favorite of the hospitals in the Houston area. Just understanding how your job affects the people around you and the patients, made me proud to be a part of the family.

    Cons

    If you do not know someone within the company, it will be hard to become a employee within M.D. unless you are highly qualified for a lower position. The good buddy system is a plus to some, but can hurt others. The hiring process lacks its ability to hire out-of-network applicants. Upper management has also grown substantially. Too many chiefs in some divisions.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you are doing. Keep the line of communication open as it has been in recent months during the economic crisis. Combine responsibilities of upper management when able.

    Growth opportunities are there if you are willing to reach out and work for them.

    M. D. Anderson is a large and diverse environment, sometimes reaching across disciplines can be a challenge.

    Advice to Management

    Overall I think you do a good job dealing with our economy. If I could fix any one thing it would be to help mid management deal with poor performers. These individuals are costly and diminish the moral of their peers.

    -excellent learning experiences due to diverse and complex patient population
    -excellent support systems for PAs since MD Anderson employs more than any other institution worldwide, at least 120+
    -great opportunities to work in multiple departments
    -most employees stay long-term due to positive work experience
    -it's in the number one cancer hospital
    -located in the Texas Medical Center!

    Cons

    With such a large employee population >10,000 you can feel occasionally disconnected from other employees outside your department

    Take the time to get to know all staff in your department and discover each person's special talents and use that to encourage excellence from them.

    Enable mid management with tools to deal with performance and behaviour. Both good and bad.

    Pros

    Excellent benefits including State of Texas Teachers Retirement for everyone, plus a month of Paid Time Off your first year. Easy going atmosphere. The focus here really is on the patients, you can do whatever you need to do to help them, and management won't question you.

    Cons

    Lots of dead weight. No one ever gets fired. People call in sick constantly and never get reprimanded for it. Rarely see or here from management. Sometimes can feel invisible here.

    Advice to Management

    More contact between management and employees.

    best cancer hospital in the country, very good research environment, good research and carrer opportunity, good work atmosphere.. good salaries ...

    should compete with the best research institute of the country.. we expect more respect as a postdoc in MD Anderson

    Postdoc Association should have more power and they should be real representatives of the postdocs... TAA should rethink about their programs
