I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

They offer fantastic benefits, competitive salary, great PTO that increases with number of years of state service, good work/life balance, good opportunities for advancement, free gym access, including group classes, good management that listens, you are rewarded for good work.

    Cons

Parking is expensive (it's charged on a tiered level: the larger your salary, the higher your parking costs) & in high demand. If you can take Metro, or don't mind parking in a garage further away & taking the MDA shuttle, it will save you a lot of money. Dr. DiPinho really screwed the institution by being overly cocky & not listening to recommendations & warnings from others which cost MDA over $600M in losses in just a few months, which cost almost 1000 really great people to lose their jobs through no fault of their own. Hopefully they will find a better replacement for him.

    Advice to Management

I really loved working for MDA & planned to work there until retirement but was laid off due to their recent financial crises. Now that Dr. DePinho has announced he is leaving, really work to find someone who will do right by the institution, who will not show nepotism, who will listen to advisors, & care more about the patients & employees.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The doctors are encouraged to do research. They are very dedicated to research and curing cancer. I believe they'll succeed.

    Cons

They need to be more coordinated with budgeting and employee headcount. Parking is expensive and there's a 2 yr. long waiting list for a garage spot.

    Advice to Management

Why hire hundreds in 2016 and lay them off in 2017?
