I have been working at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time

    Pros

Friendly staff/ co-workers. Lots of opportunities to learn and develop skills.

    Cons

This role can be improperly used. This institution stair-steps it's employees, irregardless of criteria or degrees attained EXCEPT FOR NURSING. DO NOT ACCEPT and entry level or low paying position thinking/ buying into promises of growth. If you are an exception employee, they will hinder you from moving.

    Advice to Management

Stop overworking your hardest / most productive workers

I have been working at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Being part of a team is great. Health benefits good. Patients are our # 1 priority. Interaction with patients is wonderful. Love the job, love the people ! Lots of room for improvement though !

    Cons

I have been working for MDACC for 8 years !
No career pathway. Pay is poor for the amount of responsibility and workload. Can be very stressful when dealing with bad management decisions. Demerit point system if tardy or call in. No sick leave, comes out of your vacation time. Pay for own parking. For the #1 Cancer Institute in the country, treatment of staff is poor. Morale is very low at the moment and staff resignations are on the increase.

    Advice to Management

Please pay your staff according to their workload and experience. PSC's are the back bone of the institution - without their scheduling expertise, there would be no patient appointments. DO NOT IMPLEMENT FRONT DESK OPERATIONS ! Patients are already complaining about how hard it is to reach their schedulers ! When working on a reception desk or answering a center switchboard, you are taking us away from scheduling scans, labs. Appointments, etc. This is a bad decision and is not going to enhance customer service !! Please listen to those performing the job ! We are on the front line - you're sitting in an office !!

Look at your HR staff ! They should not be able to override the decision of a Department Head for the applicant the department wants. Being told you will be offered the job and HR will be in touch - only to be contacted by HR saying "you're not suitable" without any explanation or words on how to better yourself for next time - is unacceptable ! Then being told by the Department Manager they don't understand why it happened - doesn't send a positive message to the staff member !! What a person physically does in their job on a day to day basis and being witnessed by management VS being evaluated by an HR specialist who has never met you and only sees you on "paper" is bad management.
