    Pros

Solid institution with lots of opportunities to meet a diverse group of people. Many opportunities to move and grow. Great full benefit coverage

Poor management with poor execution of resolving internal issues. Expensive coverage for lower-end/entry level employees. You must pay an OBNOXIOUS amount to park your car everyday.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, very good work environment and ability to help others in difficult moments. Training is good and help you to learn everything you need to do even if you know nothing about it.

    Cons

You have to pay for parking and it's generally expensive based on the building you are working at.
Management is not fair at all and have favorites. They don't follow their core values when it comes to employees.
It doesn't really matter if you have experience or not. They will hire whomever they want even if the new hire or hires have zero knowledge/experience in any given position.
Career opportunities are based on who you know.

    Advice to Management

Management should be much more caring and help valuable employees and take care of them, keep them and not the ones who frequently call in and have low performance, etc.
When there is a will there is a way.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Nice facilities
    Opportunities to learn and grow

    Cons

Research salary and negotiate because HR will low ball with a smile on their face

Management can really improve and strive to retain good employees

    Advice to Management

Middle management should be overhauled because they are running off great, skilled employees. People don't leave good companies, they leave bad managers.

    Pros

Great Mission. You are part of a greater cause. Large institution with plenty of opportunities.

    Cons

MGMT and support staff (non-clinical) are too relax. Don't like implementing change at a quick pace. Decision making takes a long time (weeks/months!!). Staff not held accountable.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for with values based mission and vision. Diverse work force. Reputable company due to the dedication of hardworking and talented individuals. Perks include tuition reimbursement, use of the gym, discount shopping, and financial rewards for longevity.

    Cons

Merit based raises are dependent on the discretion of the department administration. The company is large and different departments have different interpretations of policy and procedures. The company could improve in department to department communication and consistency, and flexibility with work schedules. Middle management in research departments are made up of individuals who are not formally trained in management. Salary base is below average with limited room for upward growth without a masters degree or higher.

    Advice to Management

Provide mandatory training for anyone in a leadership position. Minimize the number of middle managers and unnecessary administration positions. Trust employees with flexible work schedules.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The anchor of the Texas Medical Center (TMC). MDACC has 21,000 employees, 2,000 of whom are faculty (clinical and/or research). TMC has ~100,000 employees, same amount of office space as downtown Houston, and the world's largest parking concession.
Cancer patients can get about equally great treatment at MDACC as any of the other top ten NCI designated cancer centers in the US - go to one of these, not Joe's for profit cancer center that happens to be in your town.
Texas does not have a state income tax. Air conditioning bill in Houston can be less than heating & A/C in the north.

    Cons

Lots of silos, not much communication between them. Competition can be as fierce within MDACC as it is between MDACC and other leading cancer centers.

Don't drive on I-10 through downtown during heavy rains. Don't live in or near a low spot - prone to flooding.

Culture & values: "We do things the Anderson way" = the same way for the past 20 years. If your prospective manager uses this phrase during your interview, don't take the job.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone right: patients (customers), employees, contractors, vendors, community, even politicians.
