I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Location to light rail, career movement/opportunity, benefits, retirement fund (Texas Teachers Retirement Fund)

    Cons

Variety of benefit options (only one), not allowed to tele-commute (although they complain about the cost of being in the medical center), being essential personnel during storms when not essential personnel, focus on research and not patient care, bonus opportunity non-existent, you get held to a job and not allowed to transfer if they feel they cannot replace you.

    Advice to Management

Focus on patient care and less on research. Research is not bringing in the money to the organization. It's gotten worse since the new leadership arrived (and how is it that this is a public institution and the CEO was awarded one of the largest packages compared to PRIVATELY held companies???).

    Pros

The benefits and bring part of a team who is there to end cancer

Management for the patient Escort department is never on the same page. They're always changing rules and make work unpleasant.

    Advice to Management

The job itself is easy , but can be very tiring. The management in this department needs to take their employees in consideration and acknowledge our hard work.
