I have been working at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time

    Pros

Ranked no. 1 or 2 by US News and World Report for many years, mainly for it's scale and patient care. Good pay compared to other hospitals in the same city.

    Cons

One has to stay at work for 9 hours a day, with one hour for lunch. Micromanagement in some departments. Research level overall is likely behind other major cancer centers such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Dana-Farbar.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Retirement package, TRS much better than 401K, keeps your money growing and not really affected by a stock market. The company matches your contribution, vested after 5yrs of service. Medical benefit if free if you're single, means don't include your family, but it still has a co-pay.

    Cons

Some of the managers (not all of them) are lazy and greedy, they are not working but enjoy the higher salary. They look nice, but when someone complaint to make improvements for the patients and the workers, they said they will but they don't do it at all.
The HR people are very unorganized, lack of communications. When the nurses and other allied healths served the patient well as a customer, then they must serve us well too as their customers.

    Advice to Management

The president and top managements should listen to us, making improvements for the patient services and good working conditions for healthcare worker. If necessary they need to kick out those lazy managers/directors.

    Pros

    The benefits are good here.

    Cons

pay is state based...so...lower salary compared to other places

    Advice to Management

Once you start in lab medicine, it is very difficult to move around. Also stop micromanaging

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

MD Anderson provides great medical benefits.

    Cons

Unfortunately, MD Anderson is very political; it's all about who you know.

I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked in IT/IS. The staff I worked with for multi-decades years were wonderful, professional, diverse, engaging, and supportive. The pay better than average. Great benefits, PTO, and flexible work hours (never mind being on-call a lot). The work was challenging and contributions recognized.

    Cons

Then came (1) the Epic implementation which was hugely over budget (fact) and implemented horribly (opinion), (2) The Affordable Care Act - which MDA got no piece of, (insurance greediness, and the current cadre of executive leadership and their minions which were obviously asleep at the wheel or too immersed in their own pet projects to have not seen the financial shortfall looming ahead.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to the UT Regents, not management. Drain the executive swamp.
