      Ok but partial

      Pros

MD Anderson has excellent educational opportunities, great benefits, and competitive pay. They encourage professional growth and excellence in service to the community.

      Cons

The culture is unduly political and extremely partial. Promotions and hiring are based on preference of the hiring manager rather than qualifications of the candidate and departamental management often practice favoritism which goes ignored by upper management and HR. At MDA your promotion is based on "who you know" rather than "what you know"

Great Place to Work and Retire From

      Pros

I have worked for M.D. Anderson for the past twenty years. I have never seen or heard of a better hospital to work in. From upper-management, to faculty, to supervisors, to staff, MDA has aimed to create employee retention and employee satisfaction. MDA continue to be the favorite of the hospitals in the Houston area. Just understanding how your job affects the people around you and the patients, made me proud to be a part of the family.

      Cons

If you do not know someone within the company, it will be hard to become a employee within M.D. unless you are highly qualified for a lower position. The good buddy system is a plus to some, but can hurt others. The hiring process lacks its ability to hire out-of-network applicants. Upper management has also grown substantially. Too many chiefs in some divisions.

      Rating my work employer MDAnderson

      Pros

Great benefits, flexible scheduling, opportunity for growth and if needed to change careers to different department. Making a difference in our research animals which in turn helps future studies for humans for a better cancer treatment.

      Cons

Parking, weekend shifts even after working 5 days of the weeks( which leads to working 12 days straight) My department needs improvement in upper management. ( Technicians are more used as glorified mouse cage cleaners than instead working more closely with the researchers) If we hire employees with college degrees we need to use their insight and give them opportunity to use their educational skills and develop them.

Clinical Research Finance- Do not apply here in any circumstance.

      Pros

The only pro is the name of the institute which is in shambles at present so there is no use to look for anything here.

      Cons

The worst management ever witnessed/ I have worked with. Upper management has political agendas and emotionally abuse there employees. Starting from the under qualified managers (puppets) who are actually enabled due to favoritism; everything seems to be chaotic. The employees/staff however are usually bearable. There is a constant sense of fear in the office with little to none job security. No one has the courage to speak out there minds unless they have a death wish. The salary is insufficient and there are no such things as raises/promotions. The management create a fiercely competitive unhealthy environment which inhibits the employees ability for growth and progression. If you require a job where there is no future and no rewards this is the perfect place to exist; old employees that do not adapt to change are very much welcomed here. My employment is only due to need basis and due to shortage of available jobs in the area. If any other jobs that suit my credentials are out there I will at once quit this.

Not really what you know, but "Who" you know and "Who" has "POWER"

      Pros

competitive salary, most folks are friendly and willing to share knowledge, mentoring environment, many educational and training courses are offered for advancement within the institution.

      Cons

It's not what you know, but who you know environment. Fear of retalitaion from upper management is frequently a concern across the institution. Many in management positions are office bullies, and often threaten employees to ensure processes are carried out their way. Even though the way they want it carried out may not be the very best or logical way...they want it their way. Additionally, I have experienced going above and beyond my call of duty for years, only to receive pennies as monetary compensation. Needless to say, I've often witnessed a severe lack of caring, integrity, and character in upper management. Additionally, on a few occasions, as sad as it is, I've even seen forms of racisim. It's right under the radar, but it's here. In some shape, form or fashion, employees have to pay to come to work. Either paying to ride a bus, van pool, or ridiculous parking prices for a local garage.

Core Values taking a back seat to money and egos?

Sep 1, 2012 - Registered Nurse in Houston, TX

      Pros

Mission to cure cancer is worthwhile. Providing life-giving treatment to cancer patients is it's own reward. Some of the most brilliant and dedicated oncologists and healthcare professionals in the world work here. Very good employee benefits and excellent retirement plan if you can stay for the long haul.

      Cons

The big business of caring has taken a back seat to egos and money. Lack of trust in upper management is at an all time high and getting worse. Fear of retaliation is a problem for a reason. Upper managers seem to think themselves untouchable. Some areas are chronically short staffed and staff have to work in ridiculously tight spaces.

Very Poor Leadership and Direction with horrible planning for the future.

      Pros

The employees are great people. Well most of them anyway. The services that they provide are great for people in need of their services.

      Cons

The management of the IT&S division is horrible. There is no planning of any type of project. Everything is done by the seat of their pants. Absolutely no accountability for upper management when HUGE mistakes are made that effect patient care at all. Usually they end up getting promoted to another position or sent to somewhere that is a lateral move to take the pressure off answering the questions that people are asking. They are forcing people into working 12hr 24x7 schedules that keep them away from their families because management sat on their hands for two years on a project and now the go live date is near and they are scrambling. We are now on the fourth management group for IT&S.
