    Pros

Lots of learning opportunities, active communication among employees, decent employment benefits and work-life balance, and so many passionate and caring coworkers around you.

    Cons

Not much thing to say, honestly. Maybe having some snack bar in the kitchen for breakfast and afternoon boost?

Positive experience making the world a better place

    Aug 25, 2022 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

My colleagues are smart and dedicated to doing research to find ways to improve the lives of low-income families. A change in leadership in 2019 has led to improvements in the work environment, such as an increased focus on DEI issues, and moving problematic managers out of positions of authority or out of the organization entirely. The research covers many areas of public policy and types of research, so it’s possible to find what really interests you.

    Cons

The organization is surprisingly bureaucratic for an organization of 300 people, and most decisions have to be approved by several layers of hierarchy (although most of the time those approvals are a formality). Senior management sometimes shows a lack of transparency and a risk-averse attitude that can lead to inaction. There is ongoing tension between the research side of the organization and the rest of the organization — IT, the finance department, HR, etc. — that affects staff morale and that has been left mostly unaddressed.

Great Coworkers and company culture but lost upper management

    May 4, 2022 - Research Assistant

    Business Outlook

    Pros

A great work life balance and environment to learn skills and feel like you're doing meaningful work

    Cons

Company management seems fairly out of touch with maintaining a workplace where all employees feel valued which frankly feels ironic considering the nature of the work.

Supportive organization with great salaries and benefits

Apr 15, 2022 - Technical Research Associate in New York, NY
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Salaries and benefits are great. Work schedules (hours and location) are flexible. I've always felt very supported and been given opportunities for growth and leadership. The people generally have very little ego--mostly just nerds who are looking to make the world a better place. The organization has a big impact on public policy and practice.

    Cons

Organizational culture has become a bit of an ideological bubble that is not accepting of dissenting opinions
