I have been working at MEI Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

High-end engineering and technology services company with a 25-year history of "fighting above its weight" with sophisticated customers like NASA and the Department of Defense. Filled with smart and dedicated people committed to the success of the company and its customers.

    Cons

It's occasionally frustrating that resource limitations and other limitations associated with being a small company hamper the ability to achieve goals or progress as quickly as might be desired.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing the envelope; it creates an environment that makes it meaningful to come to work. Keep pushing your people; we can take it. If you try to play it safe, we'll get stale and bored pretty quickly.

    Pros

Very flexible schedule. Great people. Aerospace sector - great to feel like you are part of something.

    Cons

Less skilled and/or experienced people sometimes make more than those with more skills and/or experience. Always on call. Raises often infrequent. No cost of living increases.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay equity. Labor law says it is ok for employees to discuss their salaries.

I have been working at MEI Technologies full-time

    Pros

Little interaction with managers = no micromanagement. Most MEIT employees interact very little with the company itself since most of us are contractors for NASA. It's great that they let our customer dictate our assignments and workload.
Work/Life balance is amazing. Schedules are extremely flexible. We do a flex (aka 9/80) schedule here. Every other Friday most of us take off.
Everyone I've interacted with is very nice and supportive. They try to recognize there employees whenever they can.
Best benefit is you work at NASA Johnson Space Center. They could pay you in marbles and you'd probably still take the opportunity.

    Cons

Benefits aren't amazing. They are a subcontractor for NASA so the lowest bid wins. No education benefits if you already have your bachelor's degree. Pay raises are nonexistent. I didn't even get the basic inflation pay raise last year.

I have been working at MEI Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Positive & appreciative HR manager; good team of coworkers.

    Cons

Benefits are too costly and take a chunk out of employee take-home pay, and benefits have been reduced drastically in past few years. Contracts have little flexibility to provide raises, not even cost of living increases.

    Advice to Management

To retain good employees, provide more incentives to stay such as better benefits and pay increases.

I worked at MEI Technologies (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are some very good employees and low level managers. They work hard and are willing to help you with almost anything. The company does have some interesting technical positions.

    Cons

The upper management is very risk adverse so there is very little change, and many of the work practices are out of date. The pay is on the low side for the industry, and it is very difficult to get more than cost of living raises.

    Pros

    Flexible schedule, good coworkers.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at MEI Technologies full-time

    Pros

Very family oriented company, they care about their employees and their employee's family.

    Cons

Due to government budget cuts and new healthcare laws all benefits have suffered, but this is the case for most companies in the US; companies have to do what they can to remain competitive in a tough market.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate different insurance companies and plans to try to stay ahead of the competition, benefits are very important.
