I have been working at MGIC Investment full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are great at MGIC. Weather you are riding high or low on a particular day there is always someone to turn to for professional and personal to collaborate with on issues. Great benefits - maturing as a company in terms of technology, data and hiring and employee management. Pension - 401K - Profit Sharing - great Medical.

    Cons

Sometimes the EGOs of upper management are to heavily involved finding solutions for business. Wondering if wanting to do good business and work for the company is the goal - or "winning" is the objective.

    Advice to Management

Encourage candor and transparency during interdepartmental teams. Take the feedback from employee surveys very seriously.

I worked at MGIC Investment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are generous and they make an effort to create a sense of community.

    Cons

The company doesn't attract entreprenurs; it attracts people who want to be comfortable.

    Advice to Management

There are many avenues for disruption to the industry with ⅔ of the Dodd Frank GSE reforms still outstanding.

I have been working at MGIC Investment full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great salry, benefits, stability and longevity. Company culture is great with excellent experienced people in place to facilitate success.

    Cons

There are no negative comments at this time. The only thing I would comment about is that for those who are looking to advance, the opportunities are slim as most employees stay within their positions for many years.

    Advice to Management

Management for the most part is very responsive and clearly identify expectations and job performance goals.

I have been working at MGIC Investment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There seems to be a genuine concern for the employees and the employee environment.

    Cons

There could be more attention to the schedule for claims and the production requirements. The requirements seem to be discriminatory.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the employee suggestions.

I worked at MGIC Investment full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company beginning to turn the corner, but handling of rescissions from crisis will impede rebound. Many clients are smarting from the companies methods of claim denials. Moving to a purchase money business will help NIW and persistency and profitability. Improving values will help default rates. Could this finally be some light at the end of the tunnel?

    Cons

High levels of uncertainty, stability and lack of internal opportunity. Company continues to be in a retrenching.

    Advice to Management

A little humbleness would go a long way.

    Pros

Good base salary / clean and nice work environment

    Cons

MGIC hires mostly people on contract with the lure that you might get hired. MGIC actual employees have great benefits & vacation - while on contract you get 1 day off every 400 hours worked. In other words that is 5 days a year and that includes sick time. Also Contract employees cannot use the gym.

    Advice to Management

No complaints, overall management is very friendly.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Great facilities, amazing programs for employees, clear communication, take the time to train employees, access to a great gym for employees

    Cons

bad parking situation, hiring/promotion decisions somewhat political, questionable work/life balance for claims department vs other departments, lots of "dead weight" in employees that have been there forever

    Advice to Management

keep in mind that people in claims are working extremely hard, realize that some of employees that have been with company forever are complacent and don't always work hard, make affordable parking options available to employees commuting from suburbs
