Salary Negotiations

works at

MITRE

Question for MITRE employees: if you already work at MITRE, then apply to a different job vacancy (within MITRE but in a different department and where the position is externally advertised), and then get the position… how do you handle the salary negotiation? ………….. Let’s say the new department offers you 180k… I know you’re always allowed to ask for more, but do you negotiate for more or no because you’re already a MITRE staffer? If you do, how much more would you ask for above 180k?

    Pros

Great benefits, interesting work, intelligent people

    Cons

Company has gone full woke. Vaccine mandate implement without grace and respect. CEO said anyone who is not VAC will fired on November 22nd. No communication to the nonVAC want to do as of Friday, 11/19. Managers are not told who will be gone on 11/22 as of Friday, 11/22.

    Constant Churn, Golden Handcuffs

Nov 1, 2021 - CyberSecurity Engineer in Jacksonville, NC

    Business Outlook

    Pros

great benefits, always something new to learn, pockets of great people

    Cons

Cannot trust the corporation, Cannot focus on a long-term path since the CEO is so manic which has created a constant churn for the past several years, looking to hire younger staff and pay them less than current employees and they are losing focus of being a long-term, strategic national asset to trying to be another Google, Microsoft, or Facebook (just not public)

    Awful Staff

    Aug 19, 2021 - Subcontract Administrator
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

It's a great company to work for on a whole. Great benefits and depending on the department, it is a great work environment.

    Cons

The leadership is blind to the "Leads" they have working for them. They take liberties is what is proper contract language and change it from day to day. Nothing is consistent. If you enjoy inconsistency.... this is the place for you.

Great place to work, once your build your network

Apr 3, 2021 - Senior Data Analytics Engineer in McLean, VA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great benefits, great work-life balance, amazing retirement matching. Projects can be open-ended, challenging, rewarding, encourage personal/professional growth. Really vibrant community of people that love sharing their work and knowledge.

    Cons

Once you build your network, MITRE is the place where you can really work on anything you want. Until you build your network, you may feel like you don't know where to look for work/opportunities or feel like you aren't doing the work you want to do. Technical staff and HR are rarely in lock-step. This sometimes leaves the individual frustrated.

Employee Story
Juan Fernandez, a network engineer in the Network Services group, shares lessons from the Army that have helped guide him in his work at MITRE. This is how MITRE network engineer Juan Fernandez describes his job: “Imagine that the internet is a highway, and the bits of data moving through it are cars on the road. Large companies, required to maintain their own networks of roads, have wider streets, with more cars and as such, a better chance of traffic jams.” Fernandez and his colleagues work to make sure all lanes stay open on MITRE’s superhighway, allowing the free flow of data among 9,000-plus employees across more than 60 sites. Ensuring fast and reliable network access is crucial to the success of our organization.
