I have been working at MKG for more than 4 years

    Pros

Basically you get to work on a lot of cool projects with really cool people, and they pay you pretty well for it — and having been at a few event shops, that is far from the norm. The management team is genuinely tries make it a transparent, positive environment that you want to be in. Like anywhere, there are struggles, but I never doubt they have the best intentions at heart. The benefits are very good (401K matching,...

    Cons

There can friction between departments as they balance competing goals under sometimes trying circumstances. Sometimes you'll have to work some crappy PR projects or straight up eventy parties, especially if we're short of making our quarterly goals.

    Advice to Management

Building better rapport between departments would make everybody happier.

I have been working at MKG full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - Pretty good roster of clients - Culture is pretty open and welcoming - Generally positive vibes

    Cons

    - Like any small shop, advancement can be difficult - Being liked can be as important as being good - Work / life balance can be challenging at times

  4. "no diversity"

I worked at MKG full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

      - Great, big-name clients - Fun and creative projects - Being a sister company with Pink Sparrow is a big advantage for projects - Hard working and talented people (especially production and design) - Sense of close-knit family - Great training, come here to learn as much as you can and then move on to a new gig

      Cons

      - Low pay unless you're one of the favorites & slow growth - Lots of late nights with little understanding of comp days - Majority of the company is under 30, which is fun when your'e young but kind of opens your eyes to their business model

      Advice to Management

Get on board with industry standard salaries and freelance rates. Be proactive instead of reactive with raises and promotions. If employees are working long hours, be flexible with WFH and project burn out.

I worked at MKG for more than a year

      Pros

Nice office, snacks and beverages in the kitchen.

      Cons

The LA office is staffed by a cliquey girls club composed of adult women that speak like teenage valley girls and twirl their hair, roll their eyes and stare into the distance when they speak at a meeting. Most have only a few years of narrow experience in one aspect of the field they work in, but throw out ad and marketing jargon to try and sound knowledgeable, but in reality have very little concept of 3D design, fabrication...

      Advice to Management

Less meetings, listen to people that are more experienced instead of being threatened by them. Foster a less cliquey, more inclusive culture that encourages efficient collaboration and greater depth of design. Improve communication.

      No opinion of CEO

I have been working at MKG full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

A few really great people. Minority/Gay owned but diversity stops there.

      Cons

ZERO Diversity especially in management also called the "council". The one non-caucasian "council" member left for not conforming and adhering to the ways of the sorority. VERY cliquey and catty culture, trickles from the top executives. Creatives at the top lack true creative talent and has a HUGE ego and very bad old producer type habits. HR will take weeks to reply to an email or simply maybe helplessly ignore...

Hire real and smart talent. Put clients' agendas first not the agency's.

I have been working at MKG

      Pros

Fun company atmosphere, fun people, company retreat plus they really do care about charitable work and donating. Decent days off compared to other places. Cute dogs every day and solid list of big name clients.

      Cons

I think the Live in the Grey culture could be implemented stronger, especially if we teach it to other companies. Lack of diversity is one thing.
