I worked at MLC (More than a year)

    Pros

modern office, good location, volunteer leave, great manager, regarded brand.

    Cons

Weird team structure, in which you all know different products, none of the challenges or updates can be easily shared. hot desking so every day you pack up and sit somewhere different daily. Support limited to over the phone, good luck trying to find help face to face, its frowned upon.

    Advice to Management

Have product based teams, and regular weekly meetings

I have been working at MLC (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are great, and respectful of one another. Opportunity to get varied work, but you have to proactive in sourcing new responsibilities. Otherwise, role can be a bit monotonous.

    Cons

KPIs require micromanagement, which is not conducive to a client-first attitude being espoused by the CEO. This is a systemic issue with performance measurement in the performance unit.

    Pros

    Great location.
Good processes as per other corporate businesses.

    Cons

Technology is old. Minimal R&D & innovation opportunity.

Changes in the leadership means more NAB influence. Leaders are managers - they have minimal understanding of the work required or the knowledge around wealth management.

    Advice to Management

Respect business knowledge held within the business.

I worked at MLC as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good location in North Sydney.
Reasonable pay, no expectation of working out of hours

    Cons

Slow moving in terms of technology
Lots of has-been's who are stale and not contributing

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Good brand name. Although not great but the contractor rates are fair. Not so fair permanent packages. Some people are very good to work with.

    Cons

Too much politics and the level of politics is too cheap. Hint of groupism among colleagues from same ethnic background. Some people lack respect towards peers. Work culture is not global, industry standards are not encouraged especially when it comes to technology. Some highly inefficient and obsolete processes are still followed and most likely would continue in the future. No hope or opportunity for using new or advanced technology.

    Advice to Management

Be fair rather than prejudiced. Make decisions based on talent, efficiency and results rather than cheap talk. Don't encourage politics at workplace. Encourage and give due respect to subordinates.
