    I worked at MPC

    Pros

Sounds like a cool place to tell people you work

    Cons

Office isnt doing well - not making money - no one even took me to lunch to welcome me- which is a common practice. Happy hour and only ordered 2 pizzas for 100 people. Just an odd place

    Advice to Management

Not sure what to say wasn’t the right place for me

I have been working at MPC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Talented Coworkers, great office locations, great 401k matching, good health/dental benefits.

    Cons

    - Career advancement only seems to exist in the Production department - Clients are all that matter and employees are reminded of this constantly. - Salary increases are minimal or non-existent - "Time-crunch" culture is prevalent and exists on every job - Atrocious work-life balance. An employees time is never truly respected, and employees are expected to work at any given time regardless of initial job expectations....

    Advice to Management

For your full time employees the opportunity to grow within the company appears non-existent. Morale is very low in the NY office and the company has been hemorrhaging full-time employees. When upper management addressed this publicly, the evidence that things would turn around was that we were hiring new staff. Far from improving morale, this has damaged it. When employees hear "things will get better", they...

    I worked at MPC full-time

    Pros

They really try to make a pleasant work environment. I guess making up for years of horrible reputation in the VFX industry. -Free snacks, beverages -Nice digs -Great Culver City location -Some great people there -Good communication from leadership

    Cons

For our smaller sized group there were some issues with personnel that they really didn't want to deal with. It seemed like they wanted to look the other way rather than confront and implement consequences. This was because the underlying soul of the company is still all about getting the work out of people rather than putting a priority on a safe, respectable work environment.

    Advice to Management

    People over Work.

      I worked at MPC full-time

      Pros

The people here are great. Artists are very talented and passionate about their work. Lots of snacks, beer on Fridays.

      Cons

Jobs are underbid to win projects. EPs take on projects knowing there are not enough resources available and everyone is expected to make it work. Teams have to scramble and work late nights/weekends to meet deadlines. Clients are the top priority, so employee needs are not heard. Artists are treated like machines. Everyone in production has too much on their plate. HR exists to protect the company, not to support employees....

      Advice to Management

The people in management roles are a big part of the problem. Listen to your employees and address their concerns. Protect your artists and producers from unrealistic client requests. None of this work is important enough to make people work all night. MPC's problems are known in the VFX community, but you wonder why it's so hard to bring in freelancers.

I have been working at MPC full-time

      Pros

Good people work there. The studio looks nice and there is a fun happy hour.

      Cons

Artists and anyone that aren't favored are treated poorly. Bad pay- focused on paying higher ups but won't shell it out on the people who are actually making the work. They should look into their HR person. Loads of negativity coming from the top tier down and it's nasty, it's not just one person it's BOTH. People are dropping like flies and nearly everyone is looking for new work or wanting to leave and management...

      Advice to Management

A beer and snacks won't help MPC. Pay your lower wage staff better. Give better raises! Upper management should care more about the well being of their staff. Don't underbid just to get a job with no resources. Freelancers are hearing about the company culture and it's going to be hard to book. Management grow up and don't be so petty. Respect ALL employees. People do talk.

I worked at MPC full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

      - Really nice NY studio setting. - Work is generally high end, artists generally top in industry. - Department heads are good people. - Paid on time.

      Cons

      - Culture of not valuing staff. The best people are always leaving MPC NY. - Client expectations are really poorly managed by top brass a lot of the time. Their demands are nearly always met to the detriment of the artists and producers. - Which leads to artists and producers put under incredible stress to meet unrealistic deadlines. It's completely the norm for projects to pass their deadlines. - This then means...

      Advice to Management

Invest in the currently inadequate infrastructure used to create clear paths for upward progression in the company. Praise and payrises shouldn't come as surprises, they should be expected as reward for hitting targets set. Set a precedent with your clients about timeframes that human beings can actually work in. And if thats not possible, make sure to have enough staff on hand to carry the load then.
