I worked at MS&AD Holdings full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

OK - Many employees do not have a choice since most of the workforce are either older and counting down the days for retirement.

    Cons

IT/Computer antiquated and need to be updated to meet current needs. A paperless system would surely make work much easier.

    Advice to Management

Most managers are fearful of their President or their Managers. The managers pass down their fears to their direct report. Most f the management employees are more knowledgeable than the President.

I worked at MS&AD Holdings full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is competitive and the coworkers are very friendly. PTO competitive.

    Cons

Very conservative. No benefits for being a salaried employee. Hours count. Not very flexible. very high workload and expected to work long hours. very behind on technology. no work at home opportunity unless you work evenings and weekends on your own. Health insurance is absolutely horrendous and they are ok with that. Departments/branches do not work together, they are in some sort of competition. Management is unapproachable and new ideas are not welcome. No opportunity for advancement. Mentality is if you don't like it here, leave. Do not treat employees equally.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! Stop expecting your employees to be robots. Give realistic work loads and update your systems/software/tools! Have appreciation for worklife balance and encourage new ideas. If people are complaining, find out why and address it.

I have been working at MS&AD Holdings full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people. Depending on department - supportive management.

    Cons

Not automated. Cylos. Poor communication. No training.

    Advice to Management

Sr. Management needs to decide how they want the company to function and then let your employees accomplish what you pay them to do. You need to hold EVERYONE accountable for their actions not just those you do not like. Allow for more advancement from within instead of having people transfer to other departments to advance. Be supportive of CORE values.

I have been working at MS&AD Holdings full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of underwriting authority granted, management is engaged and supportive of decisions made, nice 401K bonus on top of cash bonus, management does not hover over your desk they respect your work ethic unless you give them a reason not to trust that your work isn't getting done.

    Cons

Way behind the times in technology, ALL PAPER COMPANY, that's right everything is still a paper file but we've been told it is about to change, they don't allow work from home unless you are able to negotiate it during interview process and the COO is highly against it. Wish the top management was forward thinking in allowing more autonomy with employees in working from home. If we were granted WFH access and they updated an underwriting workbench solution I would give 5 stars.

    Advice to Management

update your systems now, you will have an extremely difficult time keeping younger talent around without a fully automated electronic file/underwriting system. Allow employees to work from home one day a week. You are underestimating the morale boost this can give your workforce please research it, there are tons of articles and studies on this. WFH one day a week will not take away the ability to work as a team and bounce ideas off one another in today's tech world.

    Pros

Coworkers were great to work with

    Cons

Senior management not really accessible to outlying offices nor aware of their concerns.

    Advice to Management

Remember you have good employees outside of New Jersey

I worked at MS&AD Holdings (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There is no end to the work load (i.e. plenty of work).

    Cons

Work load is large, but staff cuts and brain drain have placed an inordinate amount of responsibility on those remaining, leading to longer hours, stiffer requirements and an overall uneasy attitude.

    Advice to Management

MSIG once valued family over profit but that is no longer the case.

    I worked at MS&AD Holdings full-time

    Pros

On a personal level the people are all very pleasant, many opportunities to learn about Japanese culture, good salary

    Cons

Do not voice anything about how things are done-not a good idea. Poor planning/time management and gossiping/unprofessional behavior in some depts is surprisingly high.

    Advice to Management

Slow down and think about the impact on your team BEFORE (proactive) acting/planning, protect your people and they will work hard (er) for you. If we are behind in work do not leave right at punch out time. Lead by example.

Its difficult to think of Pros for a company that does to its employees what this company did to me.

    Cons

Dishonest management in the IT dept, let me go 7 years after I was forced out of a position promised to me by the CEO of the company.
