I worked at MSC Industrial Direct full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers were great to work with and there is a casual dress code daily. Flexible work schedule, meaning you could choose to work from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm or 8:30 am - 5:30 pm.

    Cons

Job duties are not set and change constantly. Mandatory overtime was required ever since I began at the company which was a year and a half ago. No streamlined processes once the new system was implemented making it harder to train individuals.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to your employees. There is a difference between being flexible and inconsiderate. Management also needs to hire a project consultant to lead the team in a clear direction as upper management seemed lost once there was a new system implemented.

I worked at MSC Industrial Direct full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most of the people I worked with were amazing. The community relations team makes working there lots of fun. They keep everyone engaged.

    Cons

Raises were horrible-never got above 2%. benefits were not that great at all. Mangers need to be replaced-it's well beyond training. Favoritism is rampant. No chance for advancement unless you kiss butt real well. Managers promote the wrong people. No matter how hard you work, you'll never go anywhere unless you and your boss are tight. They use all of their fun engagement events to keep you from seeing what is really going on. Don't trust ur boss. They all lie. Some of them don't really even do that much work. Kronos forms, that's it.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your employees and put their interests ahead of your own. Promote a positive work environment and stop cultivating the drama. Promote and utilize the skills of the employees you have instead of hardening them into disgruntled employees until they sick of it and quit.

I worked at MSC Industrial Direct full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Company Car with paid gas & Insurance
    - Ipad
    - IPhone

There are some good people that work at the company.

Built good relationships with customers as well.

    Cons

You will not retire from this company. One of the 3 below will occur.

1.) You will find a better career and get out of this depressing environment.

2.) You will be fired from the company due to having a great previous year. 20% growth expectation year in and year out despite economic conditions.

3.) You will have a heart attack from the stress of dealing with 15 levels of middle management, the inside sales team & the outrageous List pricing of MSC.

    Advice to Management

    Restructure everything!

I worked at MSC Industrial Direct full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. You get a company car with a gas card and a maintenance card. You can work from your home office.

    Cons

Management doesn't listen. They are "never" wrong. You are treated like a number. It's a big game here. If you make your numbers and keep your mouth shut, you will keep your job. There is far too much time spent on reports, meetings, and conference calls.

    Advice to Management

Leave people alone and let them do their job. Stop running the company like a dictatorship. Accept the fact that you're not always right.

    Pros

Company Car. Free phone and IPad.

    Cons

Terrible Commission structure. New programs rolled out and if they don't work it is the Sales Force's fault. It is never the program just the associates. Zero ability to move up for people that work hard. They hire people with no Industry experience and tell you that your not qualified. Zero work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your sales team. It is not always their fault when a program does not work.

    Pros

MSC Hourly rate associates are not appreciative of the companies generosity.

    Cons

Management speaks on holding the associates accountable but it is difficult when the management team does not support each other. Financial increases have not been what had been expected. Goals are not easy to obtain due to the hourly employee goals are different than management.

    Advice to Management

Are you really seeking MSC success

    Pros

    company car w/ gas card

    Cons

Upper management bases all goals/ quotas on very lags accounts and not equal. They were asking me for a 50% growth and others in my branch only needed a %25-30 growth.

    Advice to Management

Listen and improve. Revisit your quota system, take machinery sales out of yearly growth goals.
