      Great Company

      Pros

This review is specifically for the Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana: I worked both in the DFW and regionally throughout the Southwest and the organization really promotes hard work and good attitude. If you are in an outside/field position the schedule is very flexible and long as you get the customer taken care of... Best time to get hired on is during growth periods because you are given bonus incentives based on Market Growth and Dollar Growth, if you hit your quarterly goals you can expect between $1200-$5000 quarterly bonus. You also get annual bonuses; so there is a nice potential for a solid income. There were a few rotten apples but I would say 95% of the people I met while working there were awesome. If you traveled to different territories everyone showed great hospitality and shared the main focus of taking care of the customer. The goals set by Upper Management were clear and concise The company has great technologies and often times they roll out with some industry first technology; so if you are somewhat of a tech geek there are often causes for excitement.

      Cons

Here are the Con's: MSC is in a very competitive market place; competing with Grainger, Fastenal, McMaster-Carr and various others; so although the Goals from Upper Management are clear and concise they are also often times unattainable... some markets are only going to be able to grow so much so therefore if you kick butt for 3 years and saturate the market dont expect any bonuses going forward. Some find as a con some may welcome it. but in order to advance to upper management you must be willing to be located in Detroit; Durham-Raleigh area or Long Island NY area

Used to be so much better

      Pros

They have assembled a hard working group of associates, many who stay for years and have a lot of company knowledge. They are a pleasure to work with.

      Cons

Upper Management has their own plans for the business and now there is no loyalty to associates. They are looking to get rid of older, higher compensated players to bring in inexperienced lesser paid people. Sad to see the company change so much.

      Pros

They are flexible and now allow there associates to work remote. Which is great.

      Cons

Upper management isnt so good. They are looking too or have gotten rid of some hard workers while many associates are getting away with not doing much and its over looked.

      Pros

Great Perks!! The job is a exciting and great job and you will find ways to get things done and all these ways could get you fired. Yah!!!

      Cons

Culture is bad, vending take right around 9 months but everyone tells customers 90 days while competition delivers in a month. Upper management has priced themselves out of the business with pricing templates and don't care cause no everyone is complaining. Sell value! End of the day a hammer is a hammer no one what to pay three times what it cost cause you promised them a vending machine that may never show up.

      Pros

Nice co-worker that are working without consideration from lower and upper management, feels like a mad house, they are all about numbers and your health get affected and they don't care. Save your life and run while you can.

      Cons

Everything went wrong as of 2016, not a good company anymore.

      Pros

No weekends and dayshift. Holidays off

      Cons

They have 1 person doing 5 people's jobs. All the minorities are in this dept and their salary is much lower than other depts. In training they talk a good game but once your on the job everything changes. Supervisors are scared to speak up to upper management.

Good stepping stone but no career advancement here

Apr 7, 2014 - IT Operations in Melville, NY
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good starting salary, good people, very easy work, free coffee, regular hours Good company for "starting experience" in whatever field your job is in

      Cons

      - Work is too easy and simple due to red tape and policies - boring work - Jobs are compartmentalized and you will only learn the materials you directly work with - no chance of expanding knowledge - 1-2% yearly promotion cap has lead to long time associates doing bare minimum and slacking off since there is no upward mobility to work toward - Highly segregated feel toward upper management - HR is feared and open door policy typically gets the complainer fired (unless said complainer is in HR) - ZERO room for advancement as all new jobs opportunities are filled by consultants - including job backfilling - Shady policies - many positions are not shared with internal associates and secretly posted on job sites only - Direct manager determines your company advancement - if they do not actively help you advance you will not - Very low amount of internal promotions except at manager and above levels - senior management mostly hired externally from other failing companies (Arrow, Computer Associates) - Projects stall and take much longer than they should - mostly driven by senior management probably busy counting stacks of money
