I worked at MSC Software full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Intellectual freedom, ability to pursue state-of-the-art technology, smart people. Good opportunities to explore various engineering and manufacturing concepts through software.

    Cons

Multiple geographic locations make collaboration difficult at times. Sometimes, the salary increases seemed not to maintain the same pace as inflation. Review process seemed overly orchestrated, at times.

    Advice to Management

Focus on some outsourcing is penny wise but pound foolish. Strong reinvestment in professional staff a definite plus.

    Pros

Skilled and dedicated employees. Interesting work with a wide variety of customers and customer problems.

    Cons

Complete disconnect between the relentless focus on maximizing profit by the private equity owners and the desire of employees to build careers with a company that is respected by its customers. Once world class products have lagged behind to the point that they are almost a joke. Customer defection continues despite "Happy Ears" of executive management.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking that you are the smartest guys in the room.

I worked at MSC Software as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very open working environment. And the entire company is working just as one team. Collegues are very friendly and open to help each other. There is one conference to show demo of the work progress every two week. This help colleagues communicate with each other very well an learn about the entire product of the company.

    Cons

work loads a little bit demanding.

    Advice to Management

Meetings or conferences are a little bit often

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at MSC Software full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work is challenging and stimulating; technically well-educated and competent employees make working there interesting. Salary is midline, benefits look good on the surface.

    Cons

CEO oversight of even the most trivial decisions and the micro-management culture filters to lower echelons. There is no respect for the employee life-work balance. Superiors call late into the evening expecting you to respond; 60-80 hr work weeks are the norm and mandatory weekends are common. Evidence of discriminatory practices. Top positions rarely filled from within.

    Advice to Management

An MSC customer from a large aerospace company was once discussing the current CEO after a company conference, saying 'He makes me feel so small.' The sad part was that I didn't have anything to counter with.

I worked at MSC Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    It still has a pulse.

    Cons

Not competitive on salary, but decent benefits. Too many unqualified members of the executive management team, compared with too many who don't get the recognition they deserve. The CEO is one of the most egocentric people I've met in my career. His approach to employee motivation is to openly humiliate people into his way of thinking. New ideas are immediately dismissed as crazy. If you're a woman, forget about it, you don't have a chance with this guy.

    Advice to Management

The products are old, tired, and way too expensive. As a result, MSC has a very poor reputation in the market.

I worked at MSC Software as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked as a Front End developer Intern during summer 2012. Really good team and good manager. Made to work on Drupal CMS on which I got a good experience. Got to meet so many people.

    Cons

Did not have very challenging tasks but few were so somewhat satisfied. Working in other developer position would have been worth.

    Pros

Good camaraderie among co-workers. 401K matching.

    Cons

Just can't' tell when the company will arrive at stability.

    Advice to Management

The open work space concept without offices just DON'T work!!! It's too noisy and too disruptive and too many opportunities for people to engage in non-essential small talk.
