I have been working at MSCI as an intern

    Pros

Internship projects are real work that contribute to the company. Opportunities for innovation and experimentation.

    Cons

None that I can think of :)

I worked at MSCI as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work is engaging and innovative. If you like actually creating software, not just maintaining legacy code, then this place is great! The attitude is good too. As long as you get your work done, they are pretty flexible with letting you take Foosball breaks or even, in my department, Halo 4 breaks. It was a really fun internship and I got to work with a lot of new technology.

    Cons

The upper management and executives are/were in total chaos. 7 months into my internship, after my team had just finished a huge project that could really help the company, MSCI discontinued their internships world-wide! Like everyone was let go. Not just interns; a lot of other people were let go because so much was happening at the top level. Great place, but I can't guarantee job stability.

    Advice to Management

Focus on creating stability for your employees. It's one of the most important factors people look at when deciding jobs.

I have been working at MSCI full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefit and fun people to work with. Not a lot of room to grow though. The product is going down hill because of poor software development life cycle.

    Cons

The new management is too top heavy and they have been doing a lot of reorganization and have been laying off talented people. When it was still Riskmetrics, the management cared about the employee, things changed. To MSCI, you are just a number in the balance sheet.

    Pros

The company seems to care a lot about morale, fun days every summer, recreational activities over lunch. liberal leave and telework policies.

    Cons

Management likes to dangle the promise of a raise or promotion over you without delivering, or only halfway delivering. There are several here who describe getting a promotion, but not a raise that should come with it. Communication is abysmal, particularly inter-departmental. And empire building practices have gone on for many years, leaving the company very segmented and a refusal to improve processes. Too many jobs being pushed to Developing Markets without regard to quality of work. Metrics setup for helpdesk that a toddler could game.

    Advice to Management

Take care of Developed markets and pay raises as well as Developing Markets.

I worked at MSCI as an intern (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The software is incredible to work on, there are some very talented people to work with, great place to learn. The people in office are fantastic, and the work is interesting.

    Cons

The company is far too bottom line oriented. They had a history of laying off extremely valuable, talented developers from a product they bought because they were "overpaid." That was indicative of the culture...to them, you are nothing but a line on a ledger sheet.

    Advice to Management

Learn that people are valuable. Skill and experience that comes with time aren't easily quantified. Treat your people like they're actually people.

    Pros

Work Environment (Most people in Norman are great)
    Vacation and sick leaves
    Benefits
    Fun Days
Location (cheap living cost thus low salary I guess)
    College Town thus College Football

    Cons

Salary and title variation among employees with same experience (Sometimes less experience)
    Politics
    Lack of career growth
March April and May Tornado season

    Advice to Management

Should also communicate with the non-officer level employees regarding the projects rather than just managers.
